by blunty stating that rapper "Lil Wayne" sucks. His lyrics are nonsensical and when he can't think of a word to rhyme with he just makes one up...

I don't really listen to rap but let me state up front that I'm not saying all rappers aren't talented. Just this one.

Thoughts?

The way to really tell if a rap is good or not is to actually read the lyrics like poetry and not listen to the song. You'll know then if the rap is good or not. You'll find that the vast majority sucks. I do really respect Eminem.

yeah, a rappers lyrical style has nothing to do with how good of a rapper they are.

lyrics are lyrics. you can choose to ignore the lyrics, but the style you are forced to contend with.

for a musical example, look at Bob Dylan, his lyrics are powerful, but his vocal style of singing(if you want to call it singing) is total crap.

rappers i have respect for are a few like some people are saying most of it does suck.

rappers i admire that are mainstream:

jay-z
nas
lupe fiasco
eminem
kanye(old stuff)

The old stuff is a lot better and please slim shady is not that good the beastie boys i will take over him any day.

Anyone think that new magazine cover with 50 cent and soulja boy on it looks a little fruity? I think its the XXL magazine if not mistaken...

I vehemently disagree, Lil Wayne is one of the better mainstream rappers. If you listen closely he has a lot of brilliant metaphors and his style is so distinguishable that it sets him apart from the rest of the Rapping fodder that's out there. Listen to tracks like Wasted, Knockout, Swag Surfin, Drop the World and Jet Lee Bruce Lee and you'll see creativity. If he did away with the autotune, he'd be that much better.

The only negative with Wayne is that he over-saturates the market with too many similar sounding tracks. I can understand it from a business perspective but from a fan's perspective it becomes redundant.

If you don't like Wayne you probably don't like rap to begin with.

So in order to be subjective then it has it qualify as music. They don't qualify as music.

That is a subjective opinion. What qualifys as art? NO ONE can answer that...because its all subjective. What someone thinks is art, is something to someone else.

So the definition of art is also subjective, everything is subjective!
