So far, not impressed :(

I use an app in Seattle called OneBusAway. If the phone only had that app it might be worth it! I second WidgetLocker and Launcher Pro Plus (love the forums for LPP). Just checked out some videos from the DX on my PC today - whoa, love the HD! This device kicks the sauce out of anything else I've seen so far, including the eyeFone fore!

^Because of your post I found an app similar for where I live. Thanks for the post. I was using the bus time tables .pdf's.. I'll see how this app works.

I ride a motorcycle, and love the speedometer apps... I've downloaded GPS Speedo, Speedview, ZP Dashboard and Speedometer. For that 'WOW' factor you're going for I like ZP Dashboard, it shows your pitch and roll like and airplane, and has a compass at the bottom of it, looks really cool. For actual usablility both GPS Speedo and Speedview are really useful, both record your max MPH, and GPS Speedo records your average MPH as well. 'Speedometer' has so much info I haven't even messed with it yet, but if you ever did track days, I would think that app would be VERY useful!

So the trick is to find a certain thing this phone does that is cool in your eyes. Maybe not everyone likes the speedometer apps, but I dig them a lot. It was really funny because we rode the the GP race a couple of weeks ago and one of my friends commented on how fast I was going. I told him, "I was only doing 5 MPH over the speed limit". He says, "my speedo said we were doing 90"! So I slapped my phone onto his bike (I have the universal mount) and we took off down the road. Pretty soon he realized that 90 on his speedo was actually only 75 MPH on a GPS calibrated unit. He was ubber impressed with that app. He has a Windows Mobile phone, he said he's switching over to an Android as soon as he can now!

Play around in the market long enough and you'll stumble across something that grabs your attention sooner or later. And don't let yourself get jaded by todays gadgets. I keep telling myself that back when I was in highschool the thought of holding a computer on the palm of your hand that could do the things this phone can do was nowhere on the radar. If you would have told someone you had a dream about a device that could do the things the Droid X (and other phones) can do back then, they probably would have set you up at the looney ward in your local hospital to keep survailance on your for 72 hours to make sure you weren't about to go off the deep end and climb up into a clock tower somewhere with a sniper riffle.

These things are completely insane, and those who get bored with them so easily... well I feel sorry for them. How could someone who takes for granted the incredible times we are living in ever find something to satisfy his craving for something to 'WOW' them? Uh oh, I think I might be getting old... that really sounded like something my grandfather might have told me when I was a boy! :O

Outlaw,
Tell your buddy with Win Mob to download GPS Sport Tracker and he can do everything you mentioned plus it will record his rides and he can import it as an overlay to google maps. I use that with the Imagio on my bike. It records all your travel speeds, has a dashboard for speed and such and does all your talking about including elevations.

the trick about about apps is not to just look for apps. Think about what you do-- do you like geocaching? look for an app- cycling or running? look for an app-- astronomy-- look for an app. Just poking for cool apps you may find some-- you'll also find some junk. But when you think about what you want to do with your phone (computer) you will begin to focus that search more effectively.

Google sky. If you haven't tried it, it's freaking awesome. Unless your in a position to need access to a lap top 24/7 then you don't really need a smart phone anyway. I could do all the basics on my old phone but it wasn't nearly as fun or cool.

Wow. I must be easily impressed. I had other smartphones (palm) for years, but the jump to Android STILL impresses me regularly and I'm 2 months into the platform.

How about speaking a destination into your phone and have it drive you right to the front door with one of the best GPS software applications out there (and it just happens to be free).

Cool games with a great big screen? Check. Awesomeness.

Browse the web with pinch to zoom in and out? Check.

Wireless tethering? Check. Awesomeness.

Streaming music free? Very cool indeed.

Youtube in HQ on the go...

More cool applications than you can do things with on any given day...

Launcher Pro Plus, Desktop Visualizer, Smarter Shortcuts, Dropbox, Handcent, Rockplayer, 3 (cubed), Tunewiki, wordfeud. Just to name a few apps on my x

on the other hand, ive come to enjoy some other things about my phone

So far I have Launcher Pro Plus, Switcher Pro, Tajm, Battstatt, App Brain, Urbanspoon, Handcent and Movies - So far those are the only ones that i can see myself using alot. my swype accuracy has gone down in the past day which is kind of dissappointing but still usable

Moderate use today My battery is at 70% after about 2 hours.

I like the fact I that if I am on the road I can tell it to find Starbucks and it brings up a list of Starbucks in that area and I can pick one and it gives me turn by turn directions through my car speaker! Pretty sure the iPhone can't do that even with the GPS app which you have to buy!
