So Freaking tempted

When I freeze an app, do I have to unfreeze it for the ota update? I want to freeze just about everything. I dont need half of the things running just email and updates. Man am I nervious! I dont want my wife to beat the crap outta me for messing up my phone. I got it oct 10th and have had the crappiest battery life ever. Can I get a new phone under warrenty if I "break" it and dont tell them I rooted it? thanks

I would suggest unfreezing everything you froze to make sure you get the update. As for your wife beating you up I would suggest some trips to the gym coupled with some self defense classes. If you break your phone and dont tell them you rooted.... well thats a moral issue you have to decide for yourself. ;)

yeah, rooting along wont break your phone. just be careful with roms, kernels, themes etc...but really with odin (and with odin be really careful) its hard to perma-brick

No.1 reason for me to root. Autokiller! download it now!!!!!!
Believe it or not I actually uninstalled AutoKiller a week+ ago and I havent missed it, both in terms of battery life and overall snappiness. Truly a YMMV case

Oh ok. Well I know some guys swear by it SirKronan is a die-hard autokiller fan too, so are some [but not all] of the xda crew

im all about the autokiller. i dont put it on suicide settings but keep it on moderate and all is well. ive gone days without it to test things, but i do notice a slight increase in battery life (but then again who really knows for certain :D)

Yeah Im not saying my battery is better without it but I dont know that is worse I mean its 6pm here and I pulled this sucker off at 8am and Im at 77% sans auto killer juice defender or anything else.

I run it on ultimate, and I've been very pleased. Can't say for "certain" that its the reason I get 18 hours of battery life, receiving emails from this place all day, talking atleast 30min, sending atleast 100 txts, angry birds, angry birds, angry birds, with OC. but its certainly not hurting

yeah i used to run it on ultimate, but i found it constantly killed angry birds and baseball superstars  which i like to left where i last had them.

i havent played with all the settings on my fascinate, but on my incredible extreme/ultimate was actually worse battery life than moderate.

on my x i dont think i ever moved off moderate tbh

So by rooting it would be hard to brick my phone by just freezing apps? I dont want roms or themes or that stuff? Thanks again!

im kinda lazy to look for the link, but theres a link here or at xda with apps that are safe to freeze/remove.

basically its fine to freeze any vzw stuff, but leave the gaps alone. you WILL encounter market problems for some reason (i dont know if this is unique to our buggy devices as i always froze talk/voice on my other phones w/ no problems)

and dont freeze or delete touchwiz stuff, you will get force close loop of hell. you can REPLACE tw mostly if you follow the guide that saps linked to in this root subforum.

I think this may the post you were refering to nitsuj17: Apps that are safe to remove once rooted - Android Forums

So if I root, I wont have to unroot, or reroot for that matter when 2.2 comes out? And I prolly wont brick my phone either? Also, how do I back my phone up? Do I do this on my laptop? Not really sure. Thanks in advance!

short: no, you *shouldn't* have to unroot for the ota, but you will loose root probably

root alone *shouldnt* (99.9%) wont brick your phone

Thanks for the links Saps- I am still waiting for 2.2 before rooting, I'll likely stick with stock. Were we talking putting a Borla exhaust on my Alfa then I would be all over it. My only issue with this phone is that the Nav volume is too low. To my suprise, the Nav seems to work quite well.
Hey, Kings. There is a fix for the Nav volume that does not require root. It just requires going into the hidden menu and tweaking some numbers in the speakerphone and headphone system volume settings. I can't remember whether I saw it on the Phandroid forums or on the Android Central forums, but I tried it and it works! Nav volume is now just as loud as the speakerphone on a call. Search around and I'm sure you'll find it.
