Root So How Do You Root This Thing?

I'm on my way to pick one up from local Radio Shack. Anybody have a guide on how to root this thing? I just wanna root it for root explorer and wifi tethering. I looked at the stickies and didn't really gather much. Thank you for any input!

I did see that guide but I have a few questions about it. I'm trying to stick with the stock ROM so I won't be flashing any roms. I just want to root the phone. What steps do I need to do and which do I avoid? Also can I just install superuser off the market after rooting or do I have to use the one provided in the guide?

HTC unlock, flash recovery, flash superuser zip. HTC unlock does a factory reset. That will keep you rom stock with root.

Do I have to use the recovery in the guide or will clockwork work as well?

Clockwork is fine. I just find that TWRP is a little more newbie friendly. I like how it's organized versus CWM.

Of course, 4EXT blows them both away, but you have to have a rooted ROM installed before it'll download the recovery and flash it.

Is there a simpler guide? I'm so damn confused following the steps....lol. It was so easy to use my Triumph with ROMs and rooting. Is there a simplified video? Please help.

The Triumph had an unlocked bootloader and sudo binaries out of the box. This has a locked bootloader, so it won't be as easy. But even if it looks hard, it really isn't that bad. Definitely not "one-click root", but easier than some.

i have a test for someone. This is intended for people that don't want to unlock but still want root.

Attached is a one click root for the evo4g lte that i have modified for the evo v. Must not be rooted or unlocked for this test.

NOTE: THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY 0 CHANCE OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE. BUT IN ANY CASE I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE WITH WHAT YOU DO.

Just in case you can download the RUU for the EVO V from the sticky in this forum so you can revert back to stock.

Ensure you have usb debugging enabled and drivers installed.

Open zip right click on runme.bat and run as administrator. let me know if you are rooted after it is done.

What do you lose with it not being unlocked? Would be happy to try it but my computer harddrive just crashed today.

not being able to flash roms. some people might want to keep their warranty but still want root. so this method is an attempt at that.

lol talk about hard.. I think the hardest root ive ever done was my friend's mytouch slide 3g. Talk about an absolute NIGHTMARE. the instructions practically told you to reverse hex edit the sdcard. xD

easiest root was my warp, flash superuser.zip nd go :D

Sorry for off topic :p thought i could share that

I'll be the guy continuing to ask questions lol.... Would it be possible to unlock later if wanted after rooting this way or would you have to undo root and start over? I just know that dealing with bloatware is nice but eventually someone doing this might want to flash a kernel so would be good to know.

yes you will be able to. flashing a new kernel won't come anytime soon till htc releases source code.
