So its official, Facebook is more popular than porn

That is an incredibly narrow-minded view on social networking. I find it INCREDIBLY useful in keeping in touch with my friends in CA while I'm studying in IN (and hopefully in NYC this fall). Oh and also with my international friends and friends who are studying abroad. It's far easier than trying to call, email, skype, or text everyone just to stay in touch. With social networking, it feels like your friends are closer. You can easily keep in touch with what they're up to, including any latest updates, such as relationships. So many of my friends all of the world get into relationships that I would not have known otherwise until much later. I grew up with social networking with my first MySpace page back in early high school and know the importance of it. Every one of my friends use Facebook and so many conversations happen on Facebook. I wouldn't want to miss an important conversation.

One of the most important things that I've ever done on Facebook was make a page for my friend who went mysteriously missing for days. Facebook helped with spreading the word around the area that he was in. There were eventually up to 26,000 people who we aware of what was going on and many of them actively participated in the search. The Facebook page led to articles in the school newspaper and city newspaper and eventually he was found by another student who was part of the group. Social networking is an incredibly fast form of communication that can spread information like wildfire.

You just listed what intelligent people use it for. I was merely highlighting what the average kid uses it for. Well that, and posting pics of themselves getting wasted for their parents to find and ground them. It certainly has it's actual intellectual uses, but you are blind if you think that is how the majority of the world uses them...

You know, I knew our country was in bad shape,.....this just cements it for me.

You kids!!! Get off my damn lawn!!!!!!!

Maybe now the right-wingers will go after facebook and leave porn alone for awhile. Of course, they always have video games to blame for all of society's problems...

it's been awhile i visited the UK, but i never thought that facebook would be more popular than porn.

when i was there, myspace was more popular than facebook. wow, those were the days.

^_^

This thread cracks me up. All of you that are complaining about Social Media need to realize that this is a Social Media site too. You are posting in the Lounge. Haha.

I don't know why I've never realized that. lol It makes sense that Internet forums would be considered a source of social media.

Porn needs to update their music soundtrack selection from 'bow chicka bow bow' if they ever hope to catch back up with facebook.

On a serious note, I have a love/hate relationship with technology, which includes stuff like the internet, social networks, video games, etc... I hate how lazy it has made us all, especially our kids. When I was a kid there was no such expression as 'too hot/cold to play outside'. You couldn't wait to go outside because there was nothing you could do inside without getting yelled at.

Then Atari came along and suddenly there was something to do inside..... for a half hour anyway. You could only blow up so many asteroids, or play so much pong, before your BMX bike started calling your name. But today's video games? Hell I got addicted to 'Need for Speed Underground' when it came out. I know first hand what the drawl is. I can't blame kids for staying inside and losing track of time on an XBox 360 or PS3. I can remember getting home from work at 3:30 in the afternoon, sitting down to some NFS, and then looking at the clock to see it was 2 a.m. and I had to be at work in 5 hours.

It's most definately addictive. And that is why I don't own any gaming systems anymore. But on the same token, facebook has helped me reconnect with so many of my military buddies that were long gone, and I had no clue how to get a hold of them. But although I did call them once I found them via FB, that no where near does as much justice as getting to flip through their online galleries and see them as they look today. See their families. Hear their stories about vacations they've taken. Offer my condolences when I see on their status that their dog was just run over, or their daughter found out she had leukemia. For that, facebook is invaluable.

So certainly I hate how much less kids do these days as a direct result of the computer age we live in. But it has its moments.

Unfortunately for us, the iOS app is much better than the one for Android :(

It is better than ours NYC but they definitely have their laundry list of frustrating problems.

Its actually pretty funny, my sister logs into her FB account from her phone and her posts never show up in News Feed. Logs out of her account and logs into her husbands account from her phone and posts show up in News Feed.

Best part, all their security settings are identical!! :p

Over in England everything is more popular than sex. Drinking is more popular than sex and Facebook. I was stationed in fairford england and the town was so small that you could walk from city limit to limit in nothing flat. Yet they had like 5 pubs. The Plow inn was the most fun out of all the pubs there. Ah good times good times. lol.
