I followed the Thunderbolt for a couple of months waiting for that release. I returned the phone because of the tiny battery, and I am now waiting for the Bionic. I can't believe how quiet this forum is in comparison to the TB forum pre-release. Where is the excitement?....

I can tell you this, I was passing on the Thunderbolt for the Bionic but now I don't think so. I read on a review of the Atrix with MotoBlur you MUST create a MotoBlur signon to use it. That's horrible. I hate MotoBlur and I definitely am not going to create a signon for it. The Bionic looks to be the same way so I guess I can scratch that off my list. After having the Fascinate and it still not even having Froyo, I will never buy another Samsung handset due to their horrible lack of updating. Not wanting to go with LG's first foray into a high-end handset on Verizon so I guess that leaves me with a Thunderbolt.

There are days I really regret returning my TB. Unlike others who returned their TBolt I don't have an "old" smart phone to revert to. There was definitely a different level of participation and excitement on the TB message board leading up to it's release. I don't know if this is a symptom of the target audience for the device or what, but it is different for sure.

I don't know if I can wait until June for Bionic. I sure hope it comes sooner.

I anticipate that whatever phone I get next it will be rooted. The fact that manufacturers and verizon do not listen to their customers guarantees this is the only way I will have another smart phone.

So software aside hardware is all I look at. The bionic is verizons most promising phone. That said it does not have enough ram. It's hard to be exited for a phone with a obvious deficiency.

I'm hoping sprint will have a phone that will smoke verizons selections for 2011 like they did in 2010 with the evo.

I'm very surprised at this, too. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that there's very lil info to be had about it mediawise. With the TB, there were constant release date rumors, Best Buy making officially unofficial announcements, yada yada yada. Every day there was something about the TB on Phandroid. With the Bionic, I feel we're doing most of the legwork creating stuff to talk about as there's just nothing they're giving us. So if maybe it starts to get talked about more, the more might start heading this way.

The EVO HD has my attention

Edit: EVO 3D, not HD

Bionic looked like killer phone at CES. But it seems to be going down the ladder on my list as time goes by. As seen in Atrix, the qHD screen is with pentile pixels. So it loses sharpness nearly to WVGA level on small texts and color, contrast are quite dull looking. Tegra2 seems to lose some performance too when it's paired with qHD screen as seen in benchmarks on Optimus 2X vs Atrix. 2X does about 10% better since it has lower resolution than Atrix. Even 1Gb RAM on Atrix couldn't help it enough with burden of moving more pixels.

I think Motorola should return to TI OMAP series like last year. OMAP4 and OMAP5 seem to be very potent line of multi-core processors. OMAP4 in LG Optimus 3D easily triumphs 2X.

There will always be a faster/more powerful device to look forward to, so the Bionic losing some of its luster as we approach launch day doesn't really surprise me.
What DOES surprise me is that we have virtually NOTHING to talk about. Hype is only a "free PR" miracle-machine after it's been thoroughly wound up; and I think we're several major announcements away from anything resembling "hype" status. I mean, I'm still wondering if it's going to land in the same quarter it was initially slated to arrive in. Such uncertainty about an exciting new product is weak... so very, very weak.
In an attempt to look at the bright side.. perhaps all of the marketing & advertising budget was given to R&D to make the phone unbelievably great. Yeah.. that's it. ;)

August 23rd for launch day :D

I lurk on this part of the forum more often than I post, because quite simply, there is more speculation than actual information. Most people have already voiced their gripes with the locked bootloader and their perception of 'limited' ram, so the only thing left is to be patient. :)

I've played with the Atrix and liked it. If the Bionic is similar, I'll likely enjoy it, too. If between now and the time its released, something more interesting comes down the pipeline, I'll shift my attention.

Besides, hype can lead to disappointment. :)

Speaking of the perception of limited RAM on the Bionic....

Does anyone really believe that Motorola tested the Bionic and said, "Hey, there isn't enough RAM in this phone, oh well, sell it that way anyway."?

And before anyone says that Motorola did it intentionally to make cusomers upgrade sooner to a phone with more RAM, why would they take a chance on getting the bad press of selling a phone with insufficient RAM and having their customers upgrading to a competitors phone? I don't buy it...

I have the Thunderbolt, and I came to love it, I can't see going back to my Fascinate...I tried,,,it didn't work. However I will be getting the Bionic when it drops, no real question there. I really liked the Atrix, but at&t is a joke. And MOTO blur is not bad at all on the Atrix, deff something I can Live with on the Bionic, otherwise there's Launcher pro to take care of that if its an issue. Price wise its not to much if a killer for me either, I got the TB for $199 on a new upgrade, when the Bionic comes out I'll sell my Fascinate on eBay for a few hundred, its brand spankin new anyway. And just pay the difference for the Bionic from VZW...either way I'll have the 2 hottest LTE devices this summer.

512mb ram is fine with Android, including 3.0. All the extra ram does is allow 2.2 and above to load even MORE apps into memory ;)

Case in point to test bottlenecks is the speed. A Tegra 2 with 512mb smacks the 8255/8655 with 768mb down real hard.

I was not even thinking about getting a TB and was dead set on the Bionic. But with the Locked Bootloader on the Bionic I think I am going to pass on it and get the TB. Dual Core in a phone right now is just HYPE.

The Samsung S2 and HTC Sensation seem to blow away the Bionic. I'm out of contract and thinking of jumping ship. The new Verizon phones will be obsolete by the time they get around to releasing them.

Looked at the galaxy s2....wOw. It's the bionic the way I would like to see it. 1gb of ram super amoled screen and it's only .33 inches think (bionic is .52). I hope this comes to Verizon cause I do not want the bionic with this around the corner.

Bionic is no slouch by any means. It was looking like killer phone when shown off at CES. But with phones like SGS2, Sensation on horizon now, it no longer holds the edge. I think Bionic should have been released in Q1 to gain traction, not this long wait.

I very much agree. Early announcement and late release will kill this phone.

Considering no posts in over 24 hours and the only post since then is my post about no posts, I would say interest is pretty low.

Moto may be setting themselves up for even more failure. They seem to be creating zero buzz, so perhaps they drained their marketing chest with the Atrix and Xoom.

The Atrix they screwed up with a convoluted ad effort and an over priced laptop addon and the Xoom by pricing too high and shipping with a broke microsd.

I think I'm more surprised they haven't released the Droid X2. At least that phone doesn't have to worry about any potential 4G growing pains. At first I thought the DX2 was redundant given the Bionic similar stats but I bet they'll be priced 199 and 299 respectively.

I have an interest in the Bionic as well as possibly the Samsung Charge ... also 'had' interest in the LG Revolution until I saw it was a 'Bing' phone. I had 3 Thunderbolts and had one glitch after another and decided enough was enough. I know some people seem to have no problems with them, however they seem to be the minority. I think, VZ saw interest in the phone dying before it was even released, so they rushed it out with lots of 'bugs' plaguing it.
The Thunderbolt, If working 100% properly, I think is a great phone, but, it just has too many bugs for my money.

From what I can tell, interest in all of these upcoming phones seems to a bit lower than you would expect.
I'm surprised that with sooo many phones about to come out , some any day now, there seems to be very little 'buzz' about any of them. Perhaps they learned from the Thunderbolt and want to 'perfect' these phones before release ..( ya, I know, funny) ... but, I'd rather wait a bit longer and get a phone that actually works rather than a hyped one that is full of bugs and issues.

There is no 4g in my area at the moment, but 'they say' there will be by the end of the yr., so, If I am going to lock into 2yrs, I'm leaning towards locking into one with 4g.

Like a few other people, I'm not a huge fan of VZ, who I lovingly call 'greedy bastards', ...and have considered jumping to Sprint, but, VZ does have the best coverage in my area.

Interestingly, I know a few people that have Walmarts Straight Talk and say they have great service, even better than some of there friends with the top 3 providers. I just wish Straight Talk offered a phone actually made in this decade.

SGS2 on Verizon would be a killer phone worth waiting for, but ideally with a qHD non-pentile display.
I think if you compared a superamoled screen with a qHD you would favor the samoled. It's really that good. Samsung knows screens just look at their TVs!

You're probably right. I have a Samsung LCD monitor with Super-PVA panel that looks terrific.
