Root so pissed at CWM right now

So I finally decided to make the leap to liberty. BUT! I wanted to make sure that I would save my current rom incase i didnt like it / whatever.
So yesterday I made a backup.
This AM i also make a backup
didnt get around to getting liberty installed so I try to restore my session after factory reset.
one of my restores is 1970.1.1.xxxxx and restores the entire image of the phone in about 3 minutes. I should have way more stuff than that
The other is 2011.1.15 and restores for about 20 minutes, then hangs up when i get the some .jpg and locks up and doesnt move for 20 minutes till i pull the battery!
ARRRRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!
WTF!
I have *2* backups and their BOTH MESSED UP!!!! HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE
I am so absolutely livid right now!!
Is it possible to fix any of this now?!

yea no its not that. Im pissed because apparently i didnt have enough space, and CWM didnt error out or let me know. It just says "backup complete" even though i only had 400mb, and the 700mb backup obviously didnt fit on it. GRRRRRRRR
just let me think i had a fool proof backup of my current system :(
Checked everything and those are the only 2 backups I have ATM.
Guess Ill be flashing liberty anyway...

same thing happened to me, but when i tried to reload the image that was only a partial, the system booted to endless FCs. I ended up having to boot into recovery and wiping cache/data and then loading an older image.

No - because i had a wicked hard time getting 2.2.1 to work properly at first because i was using titanium and it had some bug in it.

Probably not a bug, but all the crapware and stuff that gets backed up and reinstalled, gotta be careful, especially using the Batch restore functions in TB.

Turn this into a possitive. you now know to be extra cautious, use different backup methods, etc. Now install your new rom and start with a clean slate. That ain't gonna hurt nothin. You may even do things different this time and force yourself out of your norm.

Just my $.02

Absolutely Tom. I got hit today with things I've never thought od before. I learned a lot both by experience and help from guys on this site. I'l know better next time.

Bricking my DX last week was the greatest learning experience I've had with Android since switching over from Blackberry last summer. Not only do I understand my DX 100 times better because of it, but also I'm infinitely more confident to boot.

Mistakes can lead to greater understanding. Previous to that incident I was completely terrified of having to SBF my device. I was convinced it was an excruciating experience that I would most likely completely bungle on my own. Now I have all the confidence in the world with bringing my DX back to life if ever it falls into a bootloop or completely freezes up. Not only that, but I also feel like these things are damn near bulletproof, where before I considered them rather delicate.

But that being said I'm sorry to hear you lost your recovery. May I ask how you guys are using up all the memory on these things? Is it full of music? Just curios because I have 200 apps and have only used a fraction of the internal memory, and a third of the SD card.

9gb of music, 4-5 of video and a gig or so of pics, and bam ive got 200mb free on my 16gb card..
goes quickly
wonder if a 32 would read in a DX and how much it costs...

32gb will read. Unfortunately they are fairly new to the market and prices are high IMO. Check out Amazon, Ebay, TigerDirect.

Does one of the backups have complete data and the other have complete system? You can restore individual things from backups. Go to Backup/Restore, then advanced. I would try picking data from the from that takes forever and then system from the short one. See what that nets you.

I had bad experience with 32GB card. Bought one from Verizon, got good deal on that thing, but phone didn't read it. Returned for refund.
