So the Atrix isn't LTE?

According to AT&T's spec sheet, the Atrick is "HSPA+ 14.4 Mbps with enhanced backhaul". There's no mention of LTE.

Nope. It's HSPA+.

AT&T doesn't even have LTE yet, and won't until the end of the year.

The only LTE phone coming out right now is the ThunderBolt on Verizon which does have an LTE network they just launched.

They have some laptop sticks that are LTE so that they'll work once AT&T turns on its LTE network. I was hoping they'd "future proof" the phone, ya know.

Thank you for contacting AT&T about your wireless service. My name is Julie Davis and I am more than happy to assist you today with your inquiry regarding your device.

I can certainly understand your concern regarding your phone's network capability. The Infuse is compatible with both the HSPA+ and the LTE networks. AT&T plans to launch LTE service mid-2011. We are accelerating our LTE network build, expecting it to be largely complete by the end of 2013. We are already seeing 4G speeds on our existing HSPA+ network with enhanced backhaul in areas of key markets. In these areas, we are seeing speeds up to 6Mbps and we expect these speeds to increase as we accelerate our LTE build and further deploy expanded backhaul. Your phone will automatically connect to these networks, when available in your area.

If you have any additional questions about your device, please respond to this email. If you have a question about another issue, please send us a new email via the Contact Us link in the lower left-hand corner of your myAT&T account. Thank you for choosing AT&T; we appreciate your business.

I got the same response as bfife94. Not only with one but several others. I also went to several ATT stores and they gave me either the same or similar response. I think the Atrix will be able to get 4g LTE when available in area. IDK.

No

Yeah, they are either giving you B.S. or don't know what they are talking about. I work for AT&T in a retail store, and I know, along with most of my co-workers that these devices ARE NOT LTE COMPATIBLE.

AT&T - no LTE phones until late 2011
AT&T Says No LTE Handsets Until Late 2011

As for the person above asking if the Atrix will be able to "Get" LTE when it comes out... NO. The Atrix has a GSM based radio in it, not and LTE. They are 2 different technologies. Think WiFi B/G/N.

The Atrix will be able to run on the LTE networks, only because the LTE will be backwards compatible to HSPDA+. Just like laptops with the older wireless B or G radio's can access the internet through a N band Router, provided the router is backwards compatible (Most are). But, just like the wireless devices, the Atrix will NOT get LTE speed.

It is plain and simple, no matter what anyone says. The Atrix DOES NOT HAVE LTE HARDWARE. No amount of firmware update, network upgrade or even prayer is going to change that simple fact.

According to the Atrix reviews (Engadget, AnandTech, etc.), the Atrix' network speeds are barely even 3G! lol[/QU

I also work for ATT, and a little secret is that the ATRIX is actually set at a slower speed by default. If you go into settings, wireless and networks, mobile networks, access points, and choose at&t us. Not the one that says hsdpa. Your speeds will increase by roughly four times.

Don't worry about LTE it will be a while before it is in most cities. By the time it becomes common place you will be up for an upgrade.

Thanks. Just tried it out and tested it. Download speeds seem more or less the same (between 4 MBPS- 5.5 MBPS, lol twice the speed of my DSL) but upload has gotten much faster for sure (from about 700KBPS to 1-1.2 MBPS).

It will vary by city, but every ATRIX user should download speed test, and if they aren't getting at least 4-5 mbs, they need to do what I suggested above.

I have tried both and I only get about 1.7 right now OTA. when using wifi i got 4.24.

Thanks. Ndhp

I was actually wondering wtf was my iphone getting such good results compared to my ATRIX. On wifi though the ATRIX has consistently outperformed the iphone and on 3g they are about even since your fix.

lol this does't work at all..

Weird. Must be not built out in your area.

I am getting really fast (between 2.5-5.5, usually in the 4-5.5 range) speeds throughout the greater Houston area (on both US and HSPDA with slightly faster on the HSPDA one).

RED FLAGS went up when I read this tip.

Changing your WAP settings can lead to false data billing. In fact, this is how AT&T is busting some of the Tethering tricks (For tethering without paying for it). One of the tricks involves setting up a new WAP, others involve apps that set up access through a different WAP.

I'm not saying that the above is false information. I'm just putting out a warning that changing the WAP your phone accesses to one that may not be provisioned for your data plan can lead to data overages, or being accused of tethering by AT&T.

I'll wait a couple of months and see who tries this trick and does not get hit with a bill.

I'm using the HSDPA WAP that my phone was set for from AT&T. There are only two towers near me with "4G" enabled. From those, I get about 4.6Mbps down, .33Mbps up.

Interesting thread, but I had to remove several posts due to needless bickering.

Please keep it non-personal, and address the issues at hand and not one another; you guys seem quite knowledgeable.
