So today is Day 1.. of no cigarettes... yikes!

Tried a few times, now I got the gum. It does help a little. So far, so good.
You ever try that chantix (think thats how its spelled)
Every one i ever talked to raves about it. I have smoked for 18 years now i guess. Problem is... I LOVE IT!!! Really, i love to smoke, always have. I've quit a lot in my day, drinking, acid, weed, shrooms, crack, coke, and out of all that the 'smoke' ones were always my favorite. Quit all that junk cold turkey (not at one time mind you, are you crazy!) but not my reds, or if you prefer, cowboy killers, lol
Wish you all the luck, willpower, strength in the world IOWA. God knows you'll need it. (as i do as well)
You only have another day left before you crack! Make it to day three!!
Crack??? Did someone say crack??

Good on ya, IOWA.

May I encourage you by telling you how I succeeded in not smoking since 1980?

I had "quit" innumerable times up until then. That was when I decided to never smoke again.

I realized I could "quit" every day and start again the next day. But I could decide to truly never smoke again only once.

in my drug class in college, (years ago) our teacher expressed that nicotine was as addictive as cocaine (or one of the most addictive hard drugs)....its been awhile.

i chew and quit for 3 months once, lost a job and went back. that was back in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks.

my mother is one of the toughest people i know, she says quitting smoking is the hardest thing she has ever done. believe me, thats saying a lot.

i tried chantex, it made me aggressive. but my personality is a little that way naturally. the dreams were awesome though. a guy at work who has smoke a long time used chantex and he quit. he is laid back by nature.

the gum helps a lot. tucking it in the lip next to your gums helps as well. it prolongs the exposure to nictone, helps not get to much at once, and gets it in your system faster.

i wish you the best man, i know its hard. i think its like someone i know told me. this guy smoked and chewed. he said you'll quit when you are ready. (lets hope thats before the cancer).
so be ready.

ps. sure you know; 3 days the chemical is out, after that its in your head....not that that makes it easier.

God bless.

good luck man!

my last cigarette was on jan 5th 2010, i did the patches, they worked pretty well although they make you have CRAZY dreams lol

once you get a month or two in, its not hard at all, just gotta resist the urge to even hit a cig or its real easy to fall right back into the habit!

Best of luck!!! I've mentioned in the lounge just recently that I'm substituting regular cigs w/ electronic cigs. My goal is to eventually go to 0 nicotine, & then replace the hand-to-mouth impulse w/ toothpicks or suckers.

good luck...

My dad has been trying for years...many times...
4 months ago.. he just up and quit.... still.. i hope it takes this time.

Good luck

We're almost done with day 2!! The towel is still not thrown in the ring yet, but the first round's not over yet, folks! Lets see if the prime time chimney stack smoker can 'stack' up against the task at hand!

I did it cold turkey, no replacement products or anything. 3pk a day habit and just stopped. Day 3 was the hardest by a long shot. After that it got easier and easier! I read somewhere that it takes your body 72 hours to flush the nicotine toxins out. After that it's a just a mental thing of the hand-mouth motion or reaching for a smoke after certain activities. My big stresser was phone calls. I always smoked while on the phone (ocd thing maybe?) so being on the phone made me want to grab a cigarette. Just had to stay off the phone for 3 days!

Best of luck to you in the coming days!

my buddy did it cold turkey using cinnamon flavored toothpicks any time he felt that impulse to smoke, like its been said after 72 hours its just that impulse, the toxins are already out.

congrads and best of luck iowa!
