So today is Day 1.. of no cigarettes... yikes!

if speaking my mind costs me the homecoming king crown.... I'm fine with that
No speaking your mind is fine. The way your doing it makes you look like you just trying to start trouble or want attention.

the reason we dont shower people who have always done right is because these people dont need encouragement to do right. We want people in society to become good functioning members so why encourage people who do right when they are function. We encourage the people who want to make a choice that will make society better overall.

This also has to do with some psychology and what is more effect in terms of shaping behavior but I will not go into that.

If you dont want to encourage someone or think that these posts are stupid then just dont post on them. It helps to have support from someone and all you are doing by commenting on theses posts is telling the people that all they are doing is looking for attention which will make them mad and there is a greater chance that they will fall back into their addiction for comfort.

you win.. i give up...

had same outcome with a friend..
she is very virtuous and believes the bible 100%.
no matter what I say... she is 100% sure dinosaurs are a government lie because dinosaurs are not in the bible!

will not say anymore on this subject! about you...

agreed.... however, maybe if we didn't glorify how brave a 16 y.o. mother was and showered her with attention, the 14 y.o. who is quietly sitting back and watching all the attention the 16 y.o. gets, won't think "why worry about a condom, it worked out for the other girl"

I understand it, it was part of my major.

their potential future poor choices... just like their past poor choices, can only be blamed on themselves. This "everyone is a victim" mentality is just an excuse for poor choices and a something to blame when life doesn't work out the way you pictured it.

I also am 100% in support of supporting people. But I just tend to disagree with who that support should go to. Praise and support them BEFORE they mess up, and there are less mess ups. But every choice in life has a consequence

I'll go back to outliving all of ya'll because I live a healthy lifestyle and have no e-friends

I dont really think that arguing with people on the internet is what people would call a "healthy life style" you may want to go see someone about it seems like you have some inner problems. As for living longer you under estimate what having any social interactions can do. People who are more socially active tend to have more outlets for stress thus have a stronger immune system, so even e-friends make you healthier.

I made no mention of religion in this thread.... seems like you have some deeper issues at work here....

please, sit on my couch and tell me about them. :p

Why couldnt you just say this in the first place instead of coming off all mean?

On topic tho, praising people for fixing poor choices is what we do in America... it is just a matter of time before someone makes a reality tv show about quitting drugs.. Somewhat like "Intervention" but with great prizes at the end!

I do agree with Droid in that good people dont get enough praise but praise and help to others trying to better themselves is not a bad thing like your making it out to be..

internet is not real life....

But in society today it has become a part of life, if I only talked to people face to face I would have very few people to talk to because most of my friends do not live close to me, phone calls arent always the best so we use things such as skype or AIM to keep in touch. sure these friends were made in "real life" but the internet helps the relationship. On the other hand I enjoying playing forum games when I'm bored and my friends are busy because they give some sort of interaction with other people.

it just means I'm not concerned with people on the internet liking me. I focus on real-life friends. Sure I use inet to stay in touch with them, facebook, ect, but I actually know them and therefore, more concerned with their opinion than whether or not IOWA, or TommyEd, or whoever, agrees with my opinion on here.

exactly, how many times do you get pissed that a life-long druggie wins a 100,000 prize for quitting something he should have never started. Yet you, who's never touched the stuff, never get the opportunity. How about you give the life long guy who's never even smoked a joint the 100,000 for doing the right thing?

What about fatties who win 100000 for losing 100 pounds. I was out of that running because I've never been fat.

i don't even think i'm going to fuel the pointless fire and respond this time. Especially since the only rebuttal you have is putting me down for my job. I'm 22 years old. I don't yet have a career.

congrats to all those who have quit, those who have never smoked don't know how hard it is to do! IOWA, the secret to successfully quitting is to NOT SLIP UP ONCE. In other words, don't even allow yourself to take a puff of someone's cigarette. I still get the urge to smoke when I'm around my friends who are smoking them (no, not peer pressure, they just look so damn good!) and i usually just try to push the thought out of my mind temporarily. I usually forget I was even thinking about it within 5 minutes. Good luck man:D

So he made a bad choice and is now trying to fix it. Its great that you never smoked but there is no reason to be condescending to someone for trying to better himself.

Lets keep it civil people. And congrats on the progress so far Iowa

Quit it guys.

And I'm not talking about cigarettes.

We have already given out enough warnings and have asked members to keep the conversation civilized in this thread. Infractions are going to be given to those that carelessly ignored our warnings.

mcatdtdroid, why dont you start your own thread on this situation.

Iowa im sure that you had a valid reason to start smoking be it stress or emotional or whatever but congrats on starting to quit and most of the people here are supportive of the choice

Yeah I don't even comprehend how someone can see any negative in this? He just be a very miserable negative person in real life and I truly feel sorry for him.

EDIT: Either way, I'm done with him in this thread.

Tried a few times, now I got the gum. It does help a little. So far, so good.

Haha...this thread has been a fun read. Seems as being a smoker is viewed about as negatively as being as being a convicted felon!

IOWA, good luck to you!

I too was a former smoker...of approximately 14 years. I quit using E-cigarettes about 1.5 years ago and actually still use them (typing as I puff away on my JOYE Ego ;)). I quit when cigarettes hit $5 per pack...that's too much money for me to throw away. I now spend about 1/4 that amount and am much happier.

I'm not saying E-cigs are the answer for you...do whatever works. If you do want info...let me know :) I hated everything about cigarettes...except I LOVED to smoke. I actually sit in my office with my e-cigs on my desk...feels like I'm living in the days where the ashtray sat next to the phone :D When a client drones on about their problem, day, or what their children are up to...I just sit back and vape while playing on my phone :p

Again...good luck to you!
