So today is Day 1.. of no cigarettes... yikes!

Tried a few times, now I got the gum. It does help a little. So far, so good.
Ever checked out Electronic Cigarettes? (e-cigs for short) I havn't bought a pack since November 1st of last year bc of these and how well they work. Also the flavor selection is amazing. And you still get to have your nicotine! No tar, carcinogens, combustion etc. Lost my smokers cough and regained all my senses. Google totally-wicked e-liquid. THey've always treated me well. Fast service, good prices etc. Good luck man!

i am sure you have done the math on savings... you can subsidize your phone addiction!

some smoke 1 pack a day.. at an average $5 per pack.
$1780... a year average.

never smoked but if you want to quit the best thing to do is find some other way to occupy time, learn code, build an app, cook a rom, you just need something to take your mind off of it.

Lol this is Chicago, try $8.50 per pack lol. ($10 easy in the inner city)

It's funny you mentioned the phone thing, I was thinking exactly that as one of my bonus's.

Use caution with the gum. I know someone that has been chewing it for two years.

This month marks one year tobacco free for me- even so, at this point in my life I've still been a smoker longer than I haven't. More than half of my life- that's scary.

Hang in there! Joo can do eeet.

That's exactly why i wanted to avoid e-cigs.

so do you want a cookie for doing something you never should have started to begin with?

Hey everybody, today is my 35th year smoke free... praise me because I actually made good life choices earlier in life.

instead of praising the 15 y.o. preggo teen for deciding to give up teenage type activities to "be a good mother" how about you praise the other 15 y.o. girl who decided not to get knocked up...

So he made a bad choice and is now trying to fix it. Its great that you never smoked but there is no reason to be condescending to someone for trying to better himself.

Lets keep it civil people. And congrats on the progress so far Iowa

Until I hear of a person quitting that was FORCED to put that first cigarrette to their lips....

I remember I pissed off my Wendy's co-workers when I was 18 working through college. It was over cigarette breaks. Every day, 2 girls would get a :15 minute paid cigarette breaks around 3:00. After about a week of this, I asked if I could get my :15 smoke break. The manager, who smoked, said "but you don't smoke, why do you need a cigarrette break" I told him that I didn't NEED it, but fair is fair, if they get a :15 minute paid break, I should too. They are getting rewarded for poor life choices. The girls got mad, the manager diffused the situation but tried to dismiss it.

The next day, I brought in a pack of cigarrettes and after the girls got their break, I pulled out a cigarrette and went and sat down in the break room. I never lit the cig, but I just sat there. Of course the manager asked what I was doing, I told him, I enjoy my cigs unlit. The girls went apeshit saying "you just don't understand" I told them I understand that noone forced them to take up smoking. Either way, that was the END of cigarette breaks at our store.

needless to say, I never got laid by either of those two girls.... lol

They were also the same girls who had 2 y.o.'s (they were 18) and when hours were getting cut for wintertime (when tuition was coming due for me), they gave the girls the limited hours first. Privately, I asked the manager why since I was a much better, more reliable worker and I had tuition coming up. He told me they got the extra hours because they have kids and kids trump tuition. I said IDGAF because that was punishing me for knowing how to wrap my jimmy and they didn't

so forgive me for giving a rat's ass about how brave you are when all it is brave in a comparative sense to how weakwilled you once were

I see mcatdtDROID is back in action, belittling random people on the internet for his own personal satisfaction

So what if he made a bad choice earlier in his life, he has now realized it and is doing something to rectify it. You wouldn't know, but quitting smoking is a very hard thing to do.

You obviously have some issues that need working out, otherwise you wouldnt be prowling around these forums looking for someone to attack personally. You may be 35, but it sounds like you have a lot of growing up to do.

i wish i was half as great as you think you are!

glad you are not in any position of judgment over others. I think this is how bigotry starts.

Congrats IOWA - I've seen family and friends try and fair, so all the power to you. Good luck - stick with it and there's no reason you can't succeed.

mcatdtDROID - sorry you had an unfair manager who wouldn't give you the breaks you deserve just because you didn't smoke, but that's no reason to rain on IOWA's parade. If you don't like people wishing him good luck in his quest, don't read the thread.

announcing "I quit smoking/gambling/alcohol/whatever" is for attention hounds. it's funny, I announce my xx,xxx day without smoking and and people get butt-hurt.... I want attention, too... It's just too bad I made better life choices early on.

Maybe I'll take up smoking today, quit tomorrow, and then make my own "1 day since I quit smoking thread" to get my attention fix for the day

Don't you have an Advanced Task Killer to install on someone's phone? lol

I just think sometimes, fluffing people with sunshine is part of the problem in society. "It's ok if you (fill in the blank), we'll just shower you with attention when you finally decide to do right" What about the person who just did right the entire time.

I'd rather praise the kid who constantly does right, (like my preggo girl analogy earlier), then to forget about her and then shower the girl who chose to spread her legs, but eventually decide to make the best out of her bad situation.

it's no wonder weaker willed people choose to make piss poor decisions.... after all, they will get more attention that way. Negative attention is still attention.....

the entire point of that thread was my complete opposition against installing them, if you missed that... there is something wrong

And smoking cigarettes is as "wrong" as eating double cheeseburgers and onion rings. Just because it's not good for you doesn't mean its morally unacceptable. I would never put someone down for trying to live a healthier life. You have now blatantly stated what kind of a person you are. And it seems to me that YOU are once again the one striving for attention

It will end the same... a mod will warn everyone to keep it civil. You will continue to lash out. Mod warns again. You keep crying. etc, etc.

I guess I just didn't make enough piss-poor choices in life early on huh? Guess I'll manage without anonymous internet acceptance....

it is more about your character than life choices...
how you talk and your intolerance of others...

karma.. is a biitch in the end!

karma doesn't exist.....

good character is reflected in choices.... The best predictor of future behaviors is past behavior....

if you were a theif in the past, I won't trust you with my financial information
once a cheater, always a cheater
if you were peer pressured into smoking, then what else can you be peer pressured into....

I have thanked you for your decision to not take up smoking. Will you please chill out now???

Nobody is perfect, at least he is taking steps to bettering himself and the people around him. Maybe Iowa did post for attention; But now with all your negativity you look just as bad if not worst. :\
