Root So Which ROM?

I'm sure this has probably been beaten to death in this forum as it was in the X forum. I am a die hard X rooter and just got my hands on a Fascinate to play with. I got it rooted last night and today I was going to do the odin clockworkmod setup so I can begin flashing roms. This is where I become slightly confused. Which rom's rock and which should I shy away from? This phone is more a toy than anything else I'm not relying on it as my personal device so I'm just looking for something really cool and somewhat stable. Anyone have any suggestions for me seeing how I read through the sticky on rom's but didn't find them too helpful in the comparison department? Any info is appreciated ladies and gents!!! TIA!

The only ROMs that have all the hardware working are Samsung-based. Super clean is the most popular, but they're all extremely similar and I wouldn't agonize over the choice. Others are Blackhole and DarkRevenge/SuperDark

If you can live without MMS, BT, camcorder, and some video codec issues, there are AOSP ROMs ie CM7, MIUI, Vanilla. JT's Vanilla is probably the most complete/stable right now.

This is the lazy man's way

Thank you for the info kind sir. Anybody else want to throw their 2 cents in while we are at it?

I live on BT so I use Superclean. At the end of the day there is a minimal difference between any of them really. You can change the appearance a lot more with a theme or launcher. Performance is the same. People might try and sell you that AOSP is faster than Superclean but I dont see it and neither will you. If you need everything to work go with Superclean I say though any are fine. Too much is broken on CM7 and even AOSP for me, thats a personal thing though of course. MIUI is the only thing that truly looks different IMO but again performance wise its kinda a six of one half a dozen of the other

AOSP is now feature-complete on other Galaxy S phones (incl. every hardware driver), it's just a matter of integrating their fixes into the next releases.

True Im not sure what the hold up is on the BT with jt's version but thats been a long time coming

Ok so this is going to get a little off topic but I tried using odin last night to flash a couple of different roms and it would always come up and tell me check the file type and wouldn't let me go any further. I dl'ed a couple different roms thinking it was the file itself but it happened with every single one. When I downloaded them I would unzip then to get the .md5 file which I thought that what I needed to do but it never worked for me. Any suggestions? Also when I go to xda developers to get the file to load clockworkmod recovery I get a 404 page not found error. Anybody have that file laying around that I could get from them?

You can get CWR from here: [RECOVERY] Updated ClockworkMod for ALL ROMs - xda-developers
Those zip files are for flashing in CWR, not odin. Don't extract them, you flash the actual zip file.

He mentioned on Twitter that his hands are sort of tied until he gets source. Was that true with the other builds of AOSP on other Galaxy S phones?

The GSM models have had Froyo source for ages and ages... Obviously the radio code is incompatible, which is why SirGatez is/needs to be the man. ;)
