Sochi Olympics

1,500 meter skating for women is about to start. Beware of the Dutchies ;)

Men's hockey preliminary round is over. Canada will face the winner of the Switzerland Latvia game. Will there be more than one goal scored? Every Swiss game ended in a 1-0 score.

Congratulations to the Canadian women who won gold in hockey over the US. I only caught the OT, so I missed the come back from 2-0 down to send it into OT. I saw the controversial penalty call in OT that wiped out a US power play. That seemed such a soft call to me. I heard she was warned twice before for hacking the goalie. Still full marks for the come from behind win.

The Canadian women curling team also won gold with a perfect 11-0 record. We beat Sweden whom we lost to back in 2010.

I thought he had some very valid points and kudos to him for not backing down an inch. He should shout it out... hey, we do speed skating... you want some. Outstanding as far as I'm concerned.

Watch the video in this link, for a hilarious interview with one of our skating coaches. Hilarious :p

Different countries have different cultures and part of that culture is reflected in the sports that people in different countries play. I didn't realise the Neitherlands were so dominant in speed skating. Good for them for winning so many in speed skating.

On another note, Obama owes Harper two cases of beer.

I guess other countries have some pretty good hockey players or is it just the US players are not as good as they think they are? We sent the Professionals and they came up empty handed in medals.

The NHL is made up of professionals from all countries. The Bruins had players on both the Gold Medal Canadian team as well as the Silver medal team.

I missed a lot of Olympics this time around. I don't know... just wasn't much on when I was able to watch I guess. It does seem like the Russians have pulled off a great winter Olympics... good for them.

After the semis were set, I figured both Scandanavian teams will come away medals, but only one North American team would. I don't know what it is, but perhaps it's the culture of most popular sporting events here in North America. If you lose the semis, you go home. The losers don't play another game for third place.

I know that a few years ago, the Canadian curling national championships (Tournament of Hearts and Brier) just started to include a bronze medal match for third place. Prior to that, they just have one championship match on the final day. I recall one of the skips criticised the move. I personally didn't think they should have had it either, but I guess it's about money and they wanted to have another match.

Back in 1998, team Canada in Olympic hockey lost in the semis and just didn't seem to want the bronze as much as Finland. I get the sense that like Team Canada back in '98, Team USA this year didn't want the bronze medal as much as Team Finland. If Team Canada did not advance to the gold medal game, I don't know if we'd win the bronze either.
