Help Soft reset.

What, if any, difference is there between a soft reboot and a hard reboot?

I tried the volume + power and all it did was restart the phone. My problem is that I deleted some icons on the desktop area and now I'm not able to access email, facebook, or any or the news feeds or downloads. I'm hesitant to do a hard reset because then I won't have access to use the phone even for dialing out.

Soft Reset: Restart the phone and doesn't affect software and data installed or added on the device

Hard Reset: Back to Factory settings - all data and apps not backed-up on your computer or on a memory card will be erased.

I think this is a bit wrong, more like this:

Soft Reboot = restarts your phone and apply any new settings or scripts

Hard Reboot = restarts your phone as if it had been shutdown normally

Resets have to do with options in the recovery console, reboots are done everytime you turn your phone off.
