Software Update 6.0.A.3.73

My battery is good already.
Post a screen shot of your battery usage in the How long does your battery last thread.
Don't know if it's worth me updating incase it's worse.

Yeah exactly, that's why I don't really care about this update.

Like you, ICS is what I'm after.
I would quite like this update, as the "single network mode" workaround is no good for me (no 3G where I live, and GSM is too slow where I work). Could possibly use Tasker to switch modes based on location, but it is hassle I could do without TBH.

yeah let me know how you get on with it pal

I just flashed the NL generic .73 over the singapore generic that I was using, on first impressions it seems faster, that could just be me though lol but I'll have to test it over a couple of days to see if the battery is still as good or better. At least I'm on a european generic now which makes me feel better ;)

Flashing a generic ROM won't stop you getting OTA will it?

Hi Tyseyh mate, It won't stop you getting ota updates but you will get that regions update, so what i will do is flash generic uk .73 when it's released or what ever comes next, maybe if nothing else comes i'll wait for ics and then flash that instead :)

i thought as much yeah, i keep thinking to myself, oooo i want the new update.

but my phone works fine so..
If it's not broken, don't fix it.

I keep thinking about flashing back to uk. 67 just to see what battery results I get now, might do that tonight for a little test now that my battery has bedded in over the last month

Hi there,
Ive recently bought an Xperia S and im on vodafone pay monthly, doubt ill get the update via them etc so im trying to flash myself.
Ive installed the recent flash program, ive installed the drivers for xperia s, and ive downloaded the europe generic firmware 6.0.A.3.73.
But after i press the back button and plug usb back in, the flashprogram says drivers for device are not present, you can find them in C:Flashtool/drivers, but ive already installed them.
Any advise? Flashtool recognises my device no problem.
Cheers
David

When you say back button are pressing and holding the volume down button ?

Have you tried a different USB port, also which op system are you using?

Yeh tried various ports on pc, on windows7 64 . If i wait will i get the update via vodafone? Or not since they dont stock this phone? And what about when 4.0 becomes available? Cheers

Have you got pc companion and or seus installed on your pc ?
Have you installed the adb drivers ?

Sounds like you bought the phone simfree so you will get the generic simfree updates when they become available either ota or via pcc

Have a look through this guide on xda for using flashtool ;)

Yeh got it simfree but put my contract simcard in it. Aslong as i get them im happy, will just wait for pcc to update. Cheers

Anyone with any more signs of .73 update? My battery life is killing it for me - at this rate I'll have to go back to my iP4..

Been looking at flashing .73 from another region - apparently it'd be fine - has anyone got any recommendations?

Cheers

i got fed up of waiting for the .73 uk generic so ended up flashing the .73 Central Europe, i work nights so last charged my phone 1d 3h 34mins ago and still have 21% left, that included 24 photos taken today, 30 minutes of music player. 2 hours of drag racing and another hour of Grave Defense HD, ontop of that i have sent over 40 texts, 2 pic messages, checked my emails every 3 hours and spent over 30mins on the phone. with the screen brightness at app 50%, plus using the phone generally checking facebook and browsing etc,

compared to the .67uk i would have had a dead phone about 8 hours ago,
The Central Europe .73 also gets rid of a lot of bloatware,
as soon as the uk version is out i will flash it although ive had no problems what so ever with the Central Europe firmware,

you need to go to c drive and go into the flashtool folder, and click on drivers, find your phone on the list and click install, this will install the drivers for the xperia s then repeat the steps you have already taken, once you have rebooted both the phone and the pc
i have the same firmware on mine and worked fine when i extracted the correct drivers for the phone,
.73 central europe give a great improvement over the uk (on battery life)
just remember to flash to uk generic when its released to get the uk ics update

Just flashed it last night.
.. The phone.
Was easy enough.
Flashed the Generic European rom and the only issue I found is the time.
Can't seem to find the automatic time zone for the UK.

Edit : Found it, I probably shouldn't look for it first thing on a morning.
No option for Daylight savings? Or am I missing that too?

How are you finding the battery life so far ? for me after trying the singapore and netherlands .73 I found that the singapore firmware was much better on the battery.
And now I can see just how much better it was because I flashed back to .67 uk generic and the battery just dies to quick, rumour has it on xda is that the uk .73 should be out sometime this week, fingers crossed.

Well it's still on its first charge Atm.
I'll be able to get a proper average after a few days.

Spoke to another Sony support agent today. He reckoned that the UK generic .73 firmware is available now for generic unbranded handsets. Has anyone got this in the yet via PCC?
