Solution to DHD battery problems. Contact HTC!

launching a new 'Pro' battery for the DHD in a month or so from now. It's supposedly gonna give the phone that extra juice!
Cheers,
SJ
Sounds like someones local retailer is willing to say anything to get a sale.
Hope that isn't the case though....would be a boon to get an even slightly better battery as an option.

Nothing wrong with battery as it is imo, Can easily last me 2 days, and sompe people are even reporting getting 3 or 4 days from it, Also, Where did you get the info about the pro battery ?

I could just mass quote all this thread, but then my response would look messy so I'll just quote a couple

Constant twittering, facbooking, emailing and Angry birds, my DHD battery lasted me 6 hours.

Yesterday without playing Angry birds only using wifi for the rest of things last me over 12hrs:eek: :o I was quite surprised

Thats why I don't play games.

Erm, thats cos ip4 is not as powerful as DHD :p:D

I called HTC yesterday, and to my statement of "I only get 16 hours battery", his reply was "Thats about average. You just need to start charging it more often"

I would think thats fair for a smart phone in all honesty.

But as I've said numerous times, its down to how the end user uses the phone.

It just doesn't have the extra ram otherwise iPhone 4 is more powerful. It's Androids fault. It uses too much power. It needs a built in task manager.
iOS 3 used soo much power, my 3GS barely got through out the day. Since iOS 4, it easily makes the day up until night.

My DHD dropped about 2% over the 7 hours I went to sleep last night.
It's clearly the screen and Android using up the battery. Hopefully 2.3 is more efficient.
Nothing beats my jailbroken iPhone 4 though :P

We have had this discussion before and we all know where it went.

Well yeah, that would be the most plausible conclusion to reach. However, this guy's a known fella, and I know he wouldn't say something like that just to make a sale..!

I suppose an average of 2-3 days is not bad, eh? 'Twas my phone retailer who told me about the new battery launch, supposed to be somewhere around 1500mH. Extra juice wouldn't hurt imo..!:D

for any of the people who are claiming that they are getting more than 24 hrs out of 1 charge. What are the secrets?

Would anyone kindly list what settings they have for sync, brightness etc & also what apps they use to help.

Also it would be nice to know what battery usage stats are.

Any help in this would be greatly appreciated .

Brighness: auto
Sync:-
Google: gmail and calendar (only has push)
Facebook: Every hour
HTC Sense: Once a day
Weather: Every 3 hours
Background data and auto-sync on
Wifi on while at home (all day today)

With a fair bit of texting and an hour or two of phone calls it'll get through around half of the battery.

Today, with fairly minimal use, 81% left having been unplugged for 10 hours.

Battery calibration seems to have a big affect on getting good battery life on the phone.

I get 2 days easy with WiFi/3g always on, Screen at about 20% brightness (anything above hurts my eyes), I dont use any apps that automatically turn things on or off, facebook sync every hour, twitter every 4 hours, gmail auto syncs aswell but cant find what interval I have set it to, the htc mail app also syncs every few hours, beautiful weather widget updates every 4 hours, all that with playing some music, a few calls and quite a few texts and sometimes maybe a game or 2 aswell

You'll not find a sync interval for gmail, it's "push" email, so hits the inbox on your phone the minute it lands in your gmail inbox on the google server.

I'm generally getting a day out of my DHD. But I do often find that I'm switching the data connection off when I get on my train home. Doing that, I'm usually at about 35-40% at bedtime. My settings are something like: -

Mobile Data = on
WiFi = off
GPS = off
BT = off
Brightness = Auto
Pop3 Email Sync = 1 hour
Weather sync = 3 hours
Twitter sync = 1 hour
Auto & Background Sync = on (stocks & news off)
Location = by mobile network
Live wallpapers = off
Facebook = off

Also might be worth mentioning, I don't use any app killers, and I don't use any updating homescreen widgets such as Friendstream.

The problem with battery is not in the battery, but in people. You buy a phone with a huge display, run high CPU usage apps on them all the time and expect a battery life comparable to a old dumbphone. Let me say it - this is not your old dumbphone. But if you use it like a dumbphone with some extra stuff over it, you will get comparable battery life. What do i mean ? If you use it only as a phone (calls, SMS) plus email/SMS/call notifications (any time interval), you won't have problem reaching 2, or even 3 days.

This is with 3G on, 1 hour refresh intervals for nearly everything, 6% battery remaining. True, it is a minimal phone usage, but we should compare comparable things, right ? Don't expect a 24 hour lifetime if you play Angry Birds all the time. Run an app with comparable CPU usage on your dumphone and it will be dead in few hours too. In case of Desire HD, the biggest battery drain is the display and high CPU usage. That's all - if you have display on and play some game, expect low battery life. Use it as phone with some extra browsing or some short gaming (not hours) - and expect 1-3 day battery life.

I'd just like to add that i'm a low to medium user and can get 1.5 days outta my battery. Even though it gets charged every day.

I too switched off all widgets and live wallpaper and where I could reduced the sync time on other apps to the longest interval or off if available.

I did install Yahoo mail app because I was having trouble opening emails sent to me from people who used Incredimail email client. But this has to be the worst app for draining a battery. Literally killed my battery in half a day.

I also had an app killer but that too did more harm than good.

Moral is watch what apps you install. Just wish I could remove some native apps like facebook.......:mad:

EDIT: I did order an new battery but with only 70mAh extra. I did post this in another thread so I wont repeat myself, but I'm curious as to see if Mugen produce better quality batteries than HTC. Or whoever makes them for HTC.

Regards
