How do I disable the sounds the phone makes during startup? I have the Sprint Hero.

'Fraid you can't as yet. It involves editing an XML file that's only accessable with root access, which hasn't been achieved for the Sprint handset yet.

Iirc it's not that simple as the sound isn't a standalone file.

My experience (with the Galaxy): the sound file is built into the firmware, so your only options are to enable silent mode before rebooting, or using a headset (or dummy plug) to mute the sound.

You've got to be kidding. I HATE the noisy startup sounds. If I can't get rid of them I might get rid of the stupid phone entirely.

I dont think she has a Hero.

This should be in the Sprint Hero section. I started the thread before the Sprint forum was created.
And I did get rid of the startup sound by loading the Nexus bootscreen in Fresh Pre-Kitchen after rooting.

I can solve this problem for you, I found it out by accident the other day.

If you turn down the ring volume all the way to vibrate only and then switch off your phone it remembers this when you turn it on and voil

Yup, but seeing as it's only just been resurrected after a three month lay-off I'll just close it. Moving it over there now will only cause confusion.
