Help ? [SOLVED] Face to face video chat

So my buddies got the Droid Bionic. They can use their front facing camera in Google talk and video chat with each other but I can't. Is the Triumph front facing camera incompatible with g talk?

ANSWER: SKYPE AND VTOK

I've heard skype works and normally both camera works, not sure if there's something with g talk specifically.

You need to flash the gtalk version that supports the front camera. I found it in the forums. It works really well. Skype works well too even though the FFC is not officially supported.

What do you mean by flash the gtalk version that supports the front camera. I'm CM7 11/19 ROM and gtalk was preinstalled.

They mean a different .apk file that includes that functionality. The one in CM7 must not support that. I don't use that so I can't tell you where the link for it is.

Is that the same as changing /system/build.prop lines?

ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
ro.product.model=Thunderbolt

No, you need to have a device with CWM on it. With CWM you install the Thunder.zip which contains the Thunder.prop file. The thread is on the forum, a quick search and you'll findil it. I would link you if I wasn't on my phone. It should be under the "all things root" sub-forum.

He was asking if installing that zip was basically just changing the lines in the build.prop. Which it is, I am not sure exactly what changes are made in that zip, but it is the same idea as what whyzor was asking about. Also, the thunderprop thread is linked in the root guide, so you can use that instead of the search.

I personally don't know how the file works. I'm gonna assume the file is used for a reason. If flashing the file wasn't necessary and you could just change a few lines of code the person who created the thread would've suggested that, it's much more simple. That's why I'm suggesting flashing it leaving it at that.

I think it is more than the two lines of code that were mentioned above, but that that is the same basic idea. You can always unzip the flash file and compare it to the build.prop on the phone and see what the difference is exactly. I would also say it is much easier for many users to just flash a zip than it would be to change lines of code.

It would be much easier for people who are rooted, have CWM, and know how to flash filed. Changing code just needs root access and a File Manager.

I have the stock ROM and I use ooVoo and also Tango. They both let me use the front camera and see the person I'm talking to. So, I don't think you need a custom ROM. ooVoo and Tango are free apps as well. My kids love talking to their Grandparents on it and also on th computer when we're at home.

Thunderprop is for rooted phones with a custom recovery. You don't necessarily need a custom ROM. I never had an issue using skype on stock anyway, but I think I downloaded a modified version from XDA before they made some of the updates in the last month or two.
