Root SOLVED[Support] Errors in Custom Recovery

puyow18

Android Enthusiast
I'm having a couple issues with the 2nd-init recovery.

Problem #1: I cannot install any custom ROM. Right after I confirm the install, it opens up the zip file, then quits saying something to the effect of:

(bad)
installation aborted

This has happened multiple times with multiple ROMs downloaded multiple times.

Problem #2: I can make nand backups just fine, but I can never restore. After starting the restore process it makes it past the MD5 match part but then it stops with an error message (can't think what it says)

I have unbricked with a few different firmwares, and re-rooted multiple times. I thought it might have been a bad lgrecovery.apk so I redownloaded and reinstalled that, but still no dice on installing a ROM or restore a backup. Ugh.

If any body has any ideas I'd be most appreciative. I think I'm starting to get involuntary ticks/twitches without being able to flash a ROM :o

99.9% of the time with that error its a bad file, due to either a bad dl or a bad transfer to the sdcard/phone. ;)

I try to download all my roms on the PC and transfer to SD card. The phone tends to not like the larger downloads.

I've downloaded and transferred to the sd card multiple times with the same crappy result. I'll try a different browser other than firefox and maybe that will help?

I must be the unluckiest 1% ever :afraid: considering this happens with EVERY custom ROM I've tried (Bella, TCR, Bobz CM10, etc).

Yeah, I rarely download ROMs on my phone; always from PC then transfer to phone.

diff browser may help, I never had issues like that with FF, just it lagging the f... out. lol

Might try a diff sdcard if you have a spare.

my suggestion...since it seems you've tried all other possible solutions is to start fresh...unbrick and then re-root and reinstall recovery and everything...

Thanks. I've done that about three times today with no luck. I'm going to try and redownload a ROM using Chrome and then do what you suggest.

Is your SD card full?

not even close. I'm trying a fresh new firmware/root/recovery then ROM as we speak. If this doesn't work, I'm going to follow PG's advice and try a spare SD card.

*edit - didn't work; going to try a different SD card now. ugh

well it worked with the spare SD card (thanks PG), much to my surprise. I just find it weird how the "corrupt" SD card works with everything day to day (transferring pictures, music, other files, etc) use, but everything went to shyte when trying stuff in CWM. This sucks b/c I don't want to buy a new card, but the "spare" is only 2gb. So my workaround is to make backups and/or flash ROMs with the spare SD, then pop in my "corrupt" SD which has all my stuff on it. Tedious, but it works.

Thanks for all of those that helped. If anyone knows of a way to fix this problem short of getting a new/different card let me know.

back up everything on it to your pc and then format and see if it works. ;)

Just a thought, it occurred to me that a program called spin disk had brought a disk back from the infamous click of death maybe it will work on sd cards too
