Some Help Please - Rooting

Hello.

================

I want to preface by saying I genuinely have looked - all day - and am still very confused.
I've been on iPhone since since the 3g, I loved it, but I wanted a change, and the GS2 gave me reason to change. I was massive into jailbreaking and customising, so naturally I want to tinker with this phone.

The problem is I don't have a clue. I know nothing about android, and I know nothing about rooting ect...

Any of the many guides I've seen all say different things, I can't seem to find one clear cut definitive guide.

================

I don't know what info you need so I'll just list what's in the "About Phone" menu.

Model Number - GT-I9100
Android Version - 2.3.3
Baseband Version - I9100BUKG1
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-I9100BUKG2-CL342890 root@DELL102 #2
Build Number - GINGERBREAD.BUKG2

It was bought in Ireland today on the Vodafone Network.

I know the pros and cons for Rooting - as I said I have been researching as much as I could, but now I just need pointing in the right direction to a guide that will suit my needs exactly.

Also, I have ordered a 16gb sd card for it, so I will have it soon, but I do have a 2gb one if that's any good for now? - Does the sd card retain the root or can all files be deleted off it after?

I thank you in advance for your help.

Check my signature for a rooting guide. You need this or this CF Root. They are both KG2 (one is slightly newer) so try the first one and if it gives you problems try the second one.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have a good read through you sig link.
One question, why use the older one first if there's a chance it could cause problems?

^ Yeah no problem with that. I rooted and flashed a few roms when I had my old 8gb and now I have a 32gb and no problems. All this is stored on your phones storage and not an external card.

Thanks a lot for all your help. I'm rooted now, frozen bloatware and very happy.

Does anyone know if I can get the battery icon in the status bar to show its percentage? I've only seen widgets which I don't want.

Haven't seen it on standard rom but it comes standard on lite'ning rom or on Villain tweeks on villain rom. Possible in some android kitchen site but I never got that to work proper so sorry can't remember the name.

Have a look through the Themes & Apps forum over at XDA. Make sure that any mods are compatible with your firmware version though.

The Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen offers almost endless possibilities but you (a) have to upload existing system files then download the modified versions and (b) have to replace them via ADB or a file manager as the update.zip method never works (for me anyway).
