Some kind of fast boot menu

This morning I woke up late for work. My phone alarm did not go off and someone else woke me up. Turns out the phone did not charge over night. I have "loose" outlets in the house, so it may have slipped out of the wall.

So, before I got in the shower I plugged the phone in the wall. It was off at the time. When I got out of the shower the phone was on a white screen. It had three little androids on the bottom. The top had some selections such as Fastboot, Restart, etc. It said something about HW and had a number after it.

How did it get in that menu or how do I? Maybe I did accidentally do something?

Should I be worried about possibly replacing the phone soon?

My phone is not rooted and I don't have any thing installed to suspect fishy. Just some games and apps from the market mostly.

That's the bootloader. You may have inadvertently held the volume down button when you turned it on. Nothing to worry about unless the phone gets a mind of it's own and it keeps happening.

It's nothing to worry about. The screen you are seeing is called the bootloader. You can access it by doing a battery pull, then holding volume down + power.

I'm not sure how it got there on it's own that's new to me

It's not something you will really need access to if unrooted for the most part. The only reason I could think of off the top of my head is for a factory reset if your phone won't boot up and you can't select factory reset from the phone menu.

You can navigate the screen with the volume up and down buttons and select options with the power button. If you select "fastboot", from there you can select reboot or power down. If you select reboot the phone should start normally, if you select power down you will have to power the phone back on obviously

If the phone won't boot back up then there is a problem and we can go from there.

For now I will leave this where it is, since you have already been moved once and it's not really a big deal, but if we have to do any further troubleshooting, I will move this over to the HTC Evo V 4g section since you have the Virgin Mobile variant of the device.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I don't know how it got on either, but the phone has been working fine all day. I was going to root it so I can put on Jellybean, but it looked like too much work. I didn't want to open the back and do that mod by shorting out something or whatever it was.

I'd look at the Samsung Galaxy S4 if it comes to Virgin US, but honestly I kind of fell in love with the HTC. I don't like the buttons on the Samsungs. I like how it's on the phone screen here.

Other than this morning, the phone is fantastic. Runs everything I throw at it. Occasionally (once every 4 or 6 weeks) I might have to reboot because somehow it won't connect to my network at home.. like it'll say I'm connected, but nothing loads. A reboot fixes it right up.

Only thing I'd like to see is more battery life. I go a whole day at work and have not much left at night.

The rooting process itself isn't too bad, but I can understand being nervous to do the wire trick. I was nervous as well, but it ended up being a lot easier than I thought it would. Wire trick is just for s-off which is required for JB but not for root.
