Virgin Mobile's online phone swap didn't work for me, didn't work when I called them up either. Trying to swap from an Optimus V

Have any existing Virgin Mobile customers been able to swap their phones yet? I am still having issues switching my service from my Samsung Intercept to my new Motorola Triumph.

I bought mine on Friday (from a Best Buy on 14th st in nyc) and have spoken to VM customer service countless of times but I have still been unable to get any results.

i was having problems....but the gal @ VM said over the phone to use the serial number that is pasted on the back.(sticker) she was able the activate and was up and running in less than 15 minutes. i switched over from the optimus v and im very happy so far with this phone.

Hey, when you called, did you just ask if they had the Triumph in stock? And they said yes?

Just making sure. I called a few stores around here and they all said they weren't in stock.

Yep, that's exactly what I did. When the guy said they had 1 in stock, I was speechless :P

did you make sure to enter the mdn and msid in the programming menu? (##virgin#)

When I dial that number and click view, It gives me no MDN, but it does give me a MSID. I type that in on the swap phones, and it says, If you want to swap you'll lose datapacks and downloadsXL or some BS that I don't give a darn about, and I hit next, (HOORAY!) but then it say couldn't be swapped call up the guys at VM. So darn it. But I guess I made a little progress?

...so don't I fell like a dope for rushing over there this afternoon to pick mine up? I'll break down the pluses and minuses I have from the last few hours - this is all in comparison to coming from the Optimus V.
BTW: activation from one phone to the other took less than a minute. I picked up a rocketfish case at bestbuy - the only one that had for the triumph - since I tend to be paranoid about dinging up phones (since I'm rather clutzy). It was $20 for a flimsy rubbery shell that just screams rip off, but I'll replace it for something more considerable as soon as accessories become available.

Pluses: This thing seems huge to a OV owner - in a good way. I rather like the boxy feel to it. The keys are that much larger - typing in landscape mode seems almost freeing! So glad this thing doesn't seem to have swype-which I hated and had set to default android keyboard.
This unit doesn't seem so...hot. I never did a temp read on the V, but it felt like it was burning my hand if I used it for long enough, especially while charging. The Triumph seems considerably cooler.
This unit definitely doesn't seem as bright as the OV. And I think that' a good thing - even in broad sunny weather I thought the high setting on the V was obnoxious. I myself prefer dimmer screens on laptops, etc.
Wifi signal is very strong.
The Triumph flies compared to the V - on everything from video to games to switching screens. It's boggling my mind how much faster the world moves on this processor.
There's a front camera, which is pretty neat - but what really butters my toast is a camera flash. YEAH! I take tons of photos wherever I go, so this was one of the main reasons I retired the V. The pics I took around the apartment look LIGHTYEARS better than they ever did in good lighting conditions with the V.
I am very much loving the touch buttons as opposed to the physical ones of the OV. I had wondered if they would be sensitive enough- I worried for naught on that count.
The LED colors behind the earpiece to indicate charge status are cool - kinda like charging my camera batteries or laptop. There's a Tasker profile I can ditch(I had a profile to beep at me once a full charge had been achieved).

Minuses: I am a little irked about the lack of dedicated camera button- that's a widget I'll have to put on the screen now. Hey, at least the screen's bigger.
I am getting used to the power button being on the side - I rather liked it up top on the V. I think I may be able to use the volume keys as unlock prompts using WidgetLocker, but the complete lack of something to press up top will take some getting used to. There again, this may be a benefit in disguise: less stuff to get inside the button surrounds, perhaps.
It may be that there are only 4 bars on the notification bar instead of 5 on the V, but the Triumph may be getting less of a signal in my place. Not a deal breaker, but something to consider if your signal wasn't awesome with the OV.

There was nothing wrong with the Optimus V. I will be keeping it as a backup or giving it to my mom to use as a wifi device. I would have been quite happy to stay on the V for a while. But I am so far very pleased with the Triumph's performance and build, especially the improvements on camera and screen resolution/size. I'll post more info in the forum once I get all my apps, home replacements up and running, and have a better understanding of the battery performance over time.

When you get into that menu, hit "edit", then enter YOUR phone # for the MDN, then next is the MSID - enter the same MSID that's on your other phone (get to the menu the same way), which should also be what the website tells you as well. Hit ok to save them, then hit "done" and it should reboot. You might not have to, but I turned my previous phone off.

That's what I did after doing the swap on the website and it worked - that's what customer service walks you through when you call in as well.

I feel like I've tried everything... customer service just told me that I have to wait until Wednesday (7/20) to change phones, which I feel is just an excuse because a few of you guys have been able to change your previous service to the Triumph. This is just frustrating.

To activate mine I entered my number and the numbers on the sticker on the back of the phone via website. Then the browser stopped. Then I went to settings on the Triumph, about phone and then activate phone. It turned on in about five minutes.

So does anyone know if Best Buy will be selling them tomorrow? Or is it Wednesday? None of the BB's around here will sell them in advance to me. >.>

what everyone is doing is buying a phone on the $25 plan and swapping it once the triumph is able to be activated.

Just picked up a Triumph from Radio shack about an hour ago. Been messing around with it, nothing to crazy, but so far, very happy with the device. I dislike the size and would prefer 3.7, but I suspect soon you won't be able to get a smartphone smaller than this anyway.

But the thing is clean, simple, and pretty darn fast. I'll try to port my number over tommorow and see

Dial: ##847446#
Click on Edit, enter your Phone Number in the MDN box and in the MSID box then click OK.

Then click Done...Your phone will reboot on its own.

You got it 2/3 right. The MSID is the network ID. You should get those on the screen, and probably should keep trying it until you get a successful swap email from VMUSA... [EDIT] Oh and an easy way to remmber the ## number, is that if you look at the alphabetic characters on the keys, it's actually ##VIRGIN# ... [/EDIT]

4.1" size is pretty good for me although I seriously wouldn't mind 4.3" or 4.8"...
