Root Someone help I wanna update to gingerbread!

king94

Newbie
I just rooted my phone right now and I had it on gingerbread, but before i rooted though my phone kept on messing up and it was because of this file on my phone but somehow it downgraded me from gingerbread 2.3 firmware to 2.1 and i lost everything on phone its like i just turned it on for the first time so i decided to try to root again with revolutionary and it wouldn't work that when i figured out i needed to delete the file that was messing with it. so after i deleted the file i rooted my phone which is still 2.1 and it worked but now im still on 2.1 how can i update to gingerbread and still have root and will i be able to get all the data back or is it all gone now?

Okay I am going to need you to do a couple of things real quick.

First boot into hboot (power device off then hold the power and volume down button till a white screen comes up)

Next does it say s-off or s-on?

Next what hboot version is it?

And Finally try going to recovery and verify that you have clockwork mod recovery.

Once we get all this info we can help you more.

Also Welcome to the forums!!

1. s-off

2. HBOOT-6.16.1002

3. When I go into recovery I get to the revolutionary blue page and at the top it says Revolutionary CWM v4.0.14 so I'm guessing CWM means i have clockwork? what would i do now?

Thank you very much for your help!

Okay all you should have to do is flash a gingerbread rom and you should be good although I think you lost all your data. If you need help flashing a Rom tell me.

ok thanks and yes i need help this is my first time rooting, i was thinking if i should backup all my stuff but i read somewhere that rooting doesnt delete anything but somehow it downgraded me i have no idea how that happened, so how do i exactly get the gingerbread flash?

Yeah there is always a slight chance something goes wrong. Okay first you need to download a Rom from xda there are a lot of good ones out there, I suggest starting out with mik 2.42 I think is the name. Also don't unzip it. Once you have it downloaded move it to your sd card and don't put out into any folder. Now that it it's on the sd card, boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup (I'm not to familiar with clockwork, I think you go to the backup menu) after it it done backing up, go to your wipe menu and wipe data, cache, and dalvik. After you write everything, go to flash zip from as and find the rom and select it.wait til it's done and then reboot and wait for the phone to turn all the way on which may take a while.

Of you have any questions our need any more help just ask.

MikG 2.45 is the Rom you are referring to Urge. Very stable sense rom with elements of sense 2.1 and 3.0. Good first rom. :)

how can i download the rom im trying to find it on xda but i cant and is there a way to fix a bricked phone and how can i make sure it doesnt happen to my phone?

If you haven't yet, make sure you madge a nandroid backup, and if you need any other help feel free to ask.

I have a couple of questions:
1. if i wipe will it delete all of my contacts on my sd card, and photos from sd card?
2. do you recommend another mod instead of clockwork?
3. in the link you provided all the download links on there take me to the mikmik website which just says the site is in processing of a renewed site, so when i find the download will i also need to download the kernel and radio and the other stuff they have on there?
4. and also how do i make a nandroid backup, i made a backup when i rooted my phone earlier is that it?
thank you for helping me!

I'll try to answer all of these....

1. Depends on what you wipe. If you are going to wipe for a new rom, then yes, you'll lose those contacts. Not the SD contents though, unless you wipe SD (probably don't wanna do that).
2. I, and many, use Amon Ra.
3. Hmm.. I know I made a Mik account this afternoon so I could download the beta when I get on some good internet..
They should have everything you need, if not, the radio updates are usually linked on threads.
4. Yeah, you probably made a nandroid. In Amon Ra, you click backup, and then check the areas you want to backup (system, data, wimax cache etc..)

Hope that helps.

Everything on your sd card is safe.

I actually use team win recovery project our twrp for short, amon is also a good recovery.

You could also try an evokings rom those are also good starter roms.

Just to make sure you made one, go into recovery and select backup or nandroid not quite sure what it is on clockwork

ok so since i couldn't find the mik rom i found this cool synergy RLS1 rom and it was only 1 file so i just downloaded that and i think im going to use amon-ra but right now would it matter much if i just used clockwork? im also not too familiar with what kernels and radios are, so will it be fine if i just flashed the rom?

unfortunately im not too familiar with the new clockwork mod yet but from what i have seen is that it does not have support of amend scripting. every flashable file comes with a script that tells the phone on how to install the rom. there are two types of scripts that are currently in use. the other one is edify. i believe that clockwork mod 3 and higher only supports edify while most things use amend. we have now three recoveries that have support for both scripts and they are amon ra2.3, clockwork mod 2.6 and twrp 1.0.3. of the three i would really recommend amon ra 2.3. read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html sticky. there is a section for how to switch recoveries.

ill just switch recoveries now then i saw your guide on switching recoveries but i dont understand step 9 what are the 3 wimax and what is a wimax? and is this a good rom to put on my evo: [ROM] Synergy - [RLS1+GodMode 08/05/2011] - Now With Warm Sprinkles! - xda-developers

wimax is your 4g signal it is possible to loose your keys while flashing. though this is usually associated to flashing your radios. but since you just rooted you most likely have the current radios. this is just a precaution because once you loose your keys they are gone. however if you have a backup with it in there then all is good. so make sure that you keep them in a safe place on your computer.

edit; the godmode synergy is a good rom. the godmode did not like my phone very much as i had horrible battery with it. also it takes FOREVER to install and boot up. but YRMV

thanks so just to be safe ill do a backup and copy all my sd stuff on my computer, but when i wipe do i need to do the factory reset option or should i just wipe cache, and then dalvik cache and data? and i was just going to use synergy not the god mode

no need to do a factory reset. that can be accomplished by wiping dalvik cache, cache and data. i have added how to flash a rom in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/395962-guide-rooting-gingerbread-revolutionary.html sticky.

okay so i was looking through my sd card and some apps that were deleted when i rooted are still on the sd but they dont show up on the phone can i get those back? and after i switch recoveries should i reboot and then flash rom or do it all at once?

how did you move them to the card? and where are the apps on your card? are they in a folder?

those are not apps. those are just folders that the apps use to store data and such. you need to redownload them or if you have titanium backup you can use that to restore your apps.
