Hi all I'm new to the forum. I have a Droid X and I just got it rooted the root and everything went fine. When I tried to install a custom ROM everything installed fine and phone was rebooting now it's stuck on the Motorola screen and will not go any further. I know should've probably searched for a solution in the forums but I'm freaking out hoping I didn't brick my phone! Help would be awesome! Thanks in advance!

this is why im a firm believer that you shouldn't try to put a rom on your device untill you know how to sbf. it saves you the "oh sh!t" factor lol.

A rom can easily take 3-4 minutes to start the first time. If you can't get it to boot, try a battery pull and see if that fixes it. If not try a factory reset from recovery. I had to do that with Gummy Jar the other day.

Ok, I didn't wanna leave you guys hanging on the progress. I got everything running fine and installed GummyJar with no problems. Now the problem lies in GummyJar and me getting my contacts back since it deletes backup assistant :/

You'll find if you are going to start experimenting with ROMs that you'll need to sync all of your contacts with the gmail account that you used to set up your phone. Once all of your contacts are synced with that account they will transfer over to any ROM to flash.

Backup Assistant never worked for me even when I was on the stock ROM. It is the poorest excuse for a backup program I've ever seen. It would only ever back up about 20 of my well over 100+ contacts. Don't rely on it ever.

Or use software to backup your contacts. I use MyBackup Pro for call/text logs and contacts and Titanium Backup Pro for apps and their data. If I install a rom that requires clearing data or an older backup, I restore everything but system from MBP, then restore just the data for about a dozen apps I use. Titanium also lets you uninstall or freeze systems apps and bloat.
