DON'T PANIC!!!!!!!!!
hey guys,
so the past two days my chrome browser has a displayed that the page could not be loaded:

this is showing also on my phone as well as my work computer. today i decided to try the edge browser and was surprised that i could log online here.

anybody know what is going on with chrome and this site?

Just connected for the first time this week. Multiple browsers affected (none of them Chrome), had moved to checking once or twice a day, the FF on my phone connected just now (didn't even have to log in).

The domain responded to pings, but that was the only sign of life all week.

IceWeasel seems to show the little lock icon indicating the SSL works, but Chrome and Chromium (and Firefox Quantum) throw up a red flag and go 'nope! not good enough!' Many "modern" browsers aren't satisfied with just SSL, they have to be perfect SSL or no site. That's not a future I want any part in. I use Linux to not be treated like a moron.

I hate idiot proofing. I mean if IceWeasel from like 2015 can make an exception why can't Chrome? It doesn't even give an option. The error page indicated in the OP isn't even coming from the forum, it's a built-in Chrome page with no exceptions.

I had the same thought, but the fact that it wasn't a 404 and that the site did still respond to pings meant that I was still considering "technical problem" as an explanation - though I wasn't sure what technical problem might last so long.

I just knew it was Chrome/Chromium bullying me. They do this to other sites they 'don't like' because they demand perfect SSL and not just SSL. Drives me bonkers. Can't visit the Buggies Gone Wild forum because they are still listed as 'unsecure http'. Well, not unless I use an older browser. I really hate idiot proofing. I know what sites are legit and not legit. I'm not a grandmother who has their taskbar on top of the screen and their icons set to 40pt and their font as Comic Sans. I actually know what I'm doing and use Linux. But the Internet has deemed everyone an idiot and we can't have nice things (like an unobtrusive internet)

Chrome throws up the flag and refuses to load oldversion.com as well because they don't use SSL. That's my go-to site for older apps I actually like using. I only keep chrome because some sites (such as github) depend on it and won't load correctly in Firefox/IceWeasel.

I don't understand why the internet even has to be idiot proofed in the first place. Let enough morons do the very things that drain their bank accounts and the problem will ultimately resolve itself. Knowledge is power. Idiot proofing takes the resposibility away and nobody learns anything since the 'issues' are resolved for them.

Is it some liability thing? I can't imagine an episode of Judge Judy or the People's Court where some plaintiff sued Google because they visited thepiratebay.com or porn hub and lost everything. But it would be rather funny if they did!
