SOOOO disappointed with the HTC thunderbolt

cool_story_bro.jpg

but i hear ya, they shoulda dual core'd the tbolt

I certainly won't shun dual core once they arrive, but I gotta say now that I'm running a blurless ROM (& OC'd to 1.2 I might add), processor speed is now way down on my list of priorities. For one thing, faster processor = faster battery drain. Still, I'm not dogging dual core at all.

All I'm sayin is my phone on GummyJAR + LTE internet speeds would = PERFECTION!

I think one of the big questions here is : is android 2.2/2.3 programmed to take advantage of the 2nd core? Is any of the software? otherwise you are wasting your money.

For one thing, faster processor = faster battery drain.

Wrong :p Less volts and smaller dies lead to less power consumption. That's why many of us enjoy better battery life while still overclocking; we are applying a lower voltage profile for the processor than Motorola has the phone using at stock (except those who actually need higher voltage to stably run higher clocks).

Think of the Intel P4 vs. C2D situation and the same argument as yours that people argued then.

My upgrade is not even due unit June and this phone will be 2nd tier when bionic/atrix is released. What's going to happen when games and apps take advantage of these new dual core processors? I can't believe that everyone except HTC knew that dual core was coming. If you don't care about raw horsepower than this should make a fine phone. But don't complain when high demanding apps run like crap or not at all.

Atrix is ATT. Bionic will be a beast. But like cdmoore said, what the heck are you doing that will max out a dual core setup? Not many apps that will require that power.

which is why I will be getting the thunderbolt on a one year contract.
I am able to upgrade right around the time the thunderbolt comes out (march/april according to speculations) and honestly think the thunderbolt LOOKS a lot better... the bionic just looks tubby to me (yes I know it has a much bigger battery) but I also like the "wider" screen. yes they are both 4.3" but the thunderbolt is wider/shorter and the bionic is taller/thinner (much like the Droid X vs the Evo)
I'm thinking, thunderbolt for 10 months (one year contract can upgrade after 10 months if I remember correctly), and by then the next Droid will be announced which im hoping will be an improvement over the bionic.

While the Thunderbolt and Bionic seem to be very nice devices, and a much bigger advance over the crop of phones that came out this past fall (I wasn't impressed at all by any of those devices), I still feel as if 2011 will bring even more exciting alternatives.

I'm thinking these are the first two of probably a dozen or so devices that we'll be seeing. It's a good start, but I wouldn't lock myself into either one of these just yet if I were thinking about upgrading.

This I agree with. Maybe in 1 or 2 years but right now Android has few apps that really use that power effectively. Atrix on the other hand...radical.

It has 50 percent more ram also, not to mention an unlocked bootloader. Those 2 things make it a completely different phone. Way better than an X.

one reason HTC is still my favorite OEM, they don't put Military level encryption on their phones OR refuse to give out updates until their new phones which are fancied up versions of previous phones already on the market go on sale. They tried a little tom foolery with the G2 but all was forgiven, hopefully they keep it up.

Extra points for the person who names the two companies I just bashed =]
