Sorry, noob ROM question

Hi, I am running 4.1.2 on my S2 and think it is great. I have rooted my phone to make sure I could back things properly (got fed up losing progress in games) and I was wondering what would be the benefit of loading a custom ROM? I don't mind TouchWiz and probably prefer it to the stock 4.2.2 on my wife's N4. If I was to change what should I change to and what would I gain/lose?

Thanks for any advice.

First thing you need to do is download 2 apps.
App2zip and titanium backup.
Whrb u flash a custom rom you're required to factiry reset your device. Thus losing all data and apps
App2zip will quickly majr a zip file of all your apps (or at least whatever ones you choose) you simply flash in recovery and they're back. Dont make a zip of system apps though.
Titanium can do the same thing except it will restore your data too. I generally use app2zip ti get the appe back and restore yhe data via titanium. I find it much quicker. In the meantime you should read up more on rooting and custom roms ot youll have a new paper weight

I thoroughly recommend the latest NeatRom (v4.6.x). It comes in two flavours, Full (which is essentially an optimised stock Samsung firmware with some of the dev's own 'secret sauce' added) and Lite (which has most of Samsung's own apps and other non-essentials removed but even more dev optimisation).

Thanks for the replies. Just installed the full version of NeatRom, might try the lite version another time. Installing the rom didn't work first time round, I kept getting messages saying things like email and messaging had stopped working. I downloaded the rom again and tried again. I see why you mentioned the time it takes restoring with Titanium, only on 25 out of 282 and bored tapping "install" then "done" already.

Clear your apps cache in app manager if you get the same errors next time round
