Root Source Code for 2.2.2 Released

Well folks, looks like the source code for 2.2.2 has been released.

What does this mean?

Those of us with the phones that constantly reboot (for me, it usually happens when browsing web), the source code released should have the code for the kernel containing the fixes. Which means now we can port it over to CM7.

I would advise the devs to merge the code into their repos ASAP, and release an updated rom. Yeah, I'm talking about you Bobz.

Lol, you think there any big difference between 2.2. 1 and 2.2.2?

The difference is that the 2.2.2 kernel stopped the reboot issue on about half of the OM shipped with 2.2.1. I'm sure there isn't a large difference, but there is something significantly different enough so to make these phones stable. I loved using your rom, but with the reboot issue, I couldn't ever really enjoy it. I'm convinced that if M4dRefluX's idea works, both him and I, and many others will be able to enjoy your awesome rom. :)
 
I don't know Bob, but it is true. I'm currently running Kelso's ROM because it is the only one that doesn't reboot on me. I can't tell you what's different, only that something is.

Also, there are two versions of the 2.2.2 kernel. One has reboot problems (shipped stock on newer OM's) and the other doesn't. The kernel in Kelso's ROM is the newer one. Also in the newest update bin file I posted. If you look at the kernel version in the stock update that I posted, the build has a #2 on the end. Don't know if LG has posted that source.

Really? Strange. I had absolutely no reboots with MS690Zv7, which is the latest stock update. They must have released the kernel from MS690Zv6 which still had the reboot issues. Both v6 and v7 are 2.2.2. Mine was originally released with v4, which was 2.2.1

Is there a way where I can look through logs to see what's causing the phone reboot? My guess is that it's a kernel panic.
 
True, there are at least two different 2.2.2 updates for this phone, but the source code we would need would have to come from the latest update, MS690ZV7, released around early December. The kernel version is: 2.6.32.9, lge@android-build #2, Wed Nov 2 04:11:27 KST 2011 (as it appears in the phone). Maybe the one you found was from the previous 2.2.2 update, the one that shipped with phones around September and was on the update tool around then. :confused:

May i say i have 2.2.1 and have never had a freeze or reboot issue so making all the roms 2.2.2 would force people who have no need to update to update
 
Oh, no one would be forcing you to use 2.2.2. This is just to make it work with other roms. Many people with 2.2.1 don't have the reboot issues, but at the same time, many people did. This would just help, also even if you had to update (which you don't have too) it wouldn't hurt. 2.2.2 is stable and rootable now, and the only thing it lacks now is the ability to be OverClocked. Trust me, the roms aren't all going to become 2.2.2, well except maybe kelso's but he seems more concerned with stability. :p
 
I'm using Kelso's ROM with Reppards anyRom kernel over clocked at 748 with no issues...believe me when I tell you this phone gave me all types of problems.
 
Yeah something with Kelso's fixed my problem too. I used to reboot more than 5 times a day atleast. Basically anytime I stressed out the processor (whether it be using apps or browsing the web whatever) the phone would take a dump on me. been using Kelsomod for over a week now and haven't had a reboot since.

Same here. Kelso's ROM is stable, however if I flash ANY other kernel to Kelso's ROM, I start the reboot cycles again.

Which is why I believe the kernel in the ZV7 update is the fix. Me and tripdoc worked on getting a flashabe kernel from that update, but it seemed to cause more problems than it helped lol
 
I can also confirm Kelso's rom is the only stable ROM on here if you have reboot issues. If your having problems and dont mind switching ROM's ...go for Kelso's.
 
Anyone checked if the wifi modules (what if I remember correctly was missing from the flashable zip trip made was missing) from this source will work with the stable 2.2.2 kernel?

Kelsos is stable for you guys with reboot issues because it is stock. So any changes that were made were more than likely made to the actual OS, not the kernel. The kernel in the new source is pretty much the exact same kernel we have been building from.

I guess that explains why when I put the updated 2.2.2 kernel in any other ROM the reboot issue comes back.

Well, I'm done with this phone shortly. The HTC Wildfire S is out and has to be a much better designed phone so I'm gonna dump this and grab that one.

If the changes were within the actual OS and that's what fixed the reboot problems, then why doesn't CM7 fix reboot problems completely for some people? Or was CM7 for our phones based on Stock 2.2.1? If it was based on Stock 2.2.1 then I guess people are going to start building based off of Stock 2.2.2

I flashed to the rooted 2.2.2 ROM today and it fixed all my reboot problems that I still had with CM7. It would be great if CM7 could be based off of this new update which I'm sure the devs are going to start doing soon :D
 
As I said, I dropped the OM today and picked up the HTC Wildfire S. Great phone for those of you wanting to upgrade. Already got it rooted and have CWM recovery. There's a debloated ROM for MetroPCS for the phone but i can't find if CM7 works or not.
