Speaker seems louder

yeah my speaker def isnt louder an ota update cant fix a hardware issue
Not so fast....gain can be a function of software. When they ported Android to my HTC Vogue they were able to unleash the speaker's maximum volume. Granted you could now turn the speaker up loud enough to distort, however there was some gained headroom before distortion. I was happy with the added volume.

That's not to say the update did give extra volume on the Droid X.....I wouldn't know anyway since mine should arrive on my doorstep tomorrow.

Yeah well what if the speaker is already as loud as it can be then no ota will help that i mean the speaker is tiny they should have put 2 in they could have put one next to the camera oh well

Yeah, we use to edit a file on Winmo phones that cranked up the volume. On both the Mogul, and the Diamond. Don't remember the file name now. It definitely can be done via software.

The only good thing about this POS HTC Hero, is that it has a hearing aid option. It doubles the volume on everything. I take it that feature is an HTC option, and not an Android? Judging from the volume complaints here. I wouldn't know though, I don't believe I will ever get mine. Lol!

Software upgrade or not, it's definitely louder. I was having to bump my speaker volume up to the highest or second highest, which caused the slight buzzing. Now, at halfway, I can hear just fine.

I was able to increase the volume on my laptop through software settings, so it is possible to get a boost without changing hardware.

ya i remember with the g1 I used a app called volume hack, and it doubled the loudness and it was still clear! This speaker is all over the place, On some sounds its really quiet and on others it sounds ok, but there is nothing that I would call loud. Man I hope this phone gets an update with unleashed volume lol. It is real disapointment because I love having a "LOUD" speaker!

Also there is is a sound prfile that MOTO has put und Sound & Display, but I don't notice a difference at all with those settings.

yeah i mean if they update the speaker and a few other things this phone will be amazing it is great now with these few issues if they can get them cleared up then WOW this phone will be rediculous

But his point is still valid. A software update can increase speaker volume. I wouldn't know yet though, i still haven't received my update...

Correct. however Motorola probably caps the volume levels for a reason. Higher Volume might cause the speakers to blow out sooner. thus creating more warranty replacements.

Yeah but this speaker is a joke i mean for many people it wont wake them up and i know i would be highly PO'd if i was late for work because my alarm didnt wake me. I'm not a heavy sleeper and it barely wakes me up motorola needs to address this even if it is only a minor upgrade in loudness

That's why when I make my ringtones I amplify the volume an extra 30%, so they're good and loud.

I was gonna suggest this to ppl. Make louder notifications and ringtones.

I used a louder volume hack on my rooted Droid. And did anyone read the new review by Anandtech?

http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-x/128286-anandtech-droid-x-review.html

In the speaker section the X is listed as being louder than the Droid, but that was in calls. I found out the speaker is nice n loud in calls the other day.

Its like paul89 said, the speaker is all over the place. Games, music, in calls is fine. Ringtones, alarms, navigation isnt. Some ppl had problems with listening to music...So it may be a speaker or .ogg, .wav, .mp3, etc issue?

I hope if/when we get this phone rooted, that their will be a volume hack for it!
Yes for games through my super nintendo emulator is super loud, so I know the speaker is capable, and it is clear too at tha loudness!
