Speaker seems louder

I am returning my X for this reason. It doesn't wake me the f*** up. How crazy is that?? This should be a top priority for Motorola. Is anybody listening???

I don't get it. I turn the volume all the way up and my alarm wakes me up just fine. I have it to play an MP3 and it's nice and loud.

ok this phone is messing with my head!!! Everything I play out of the speaker is really loud and it almost hurts my ears! The same thing happens with my screen, one reboot it will be okay bright at 100% and then on another reboot the screen will be ridicuolously bright!

^lol. So u just rebooted and it worked? Hey, its working for the battery % bug...

I read a thread somewhere that tech support will tell u to remove the battery and it might fix the problem.

Really? Return the best phone on the market because it doesn't work well as an alarm clock:rolleyes: That shit is REALLY funny. Forget all the other-worldly things it does....I want my alarm clock! Take a breath and draw in some reality....

This is one thing I'm afraid of. My buddy has the original Droid and that thing is incredibly loud! I hope this phone is nearly as loud as that. I guess I'll find out today, the phone is on the truck out for delivery! Sweet!!

Unfortunately, it is not... :( I came from the original droid (now owned by my wife), and the speaker was way louder.

Actually, after a deep breath of reality Dutch, I decided to get a regular alarm clock and keep my Droid X. Whatya think of that? Ya proud??? :D

That's why when I make my ringtones I amplify the volume an extra 30%, so they're good and loud.
I often find myself having to edit audio files to make them work decently as ring tones or alarms. It is quite possible to edit an audio file and simply increase the entire signal by some amount with a resulting higher peak and average level. An alternative is to instead reduce the dynamics of the signal, thus reducing the crest factor, and then boost the signal. This will provide higher average levels while maintaining the same peak levels and will sound louder even though the peak levels remain the same.

You can also do things like roll off the very low frequencies, which can more easily distort the speaker, or boost the frequencies around 1kHz where human hearing is most sensitive.
