speculation, rumors, leaks about EVO release

IRONICALLY apple now is the PC of the past. Remember the old commercial where the lady with the big boobs ran into the room with a sledge hammer and smashed the video screen:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1984_(advertisement)

Back then IBM was the dominant force and apple was just a small company trying to make a dent in IBM's sales. Sure it took a while...but look at Apple now. It's a pattern in trends and technology that will continue forever. Autosuggestion is right. Look at Apple's powerful marketing campaign and drones of followers - not just with the iPhone. It might take a while but Google is trying its best to be the next big boobed girl wielding a sledge hammer to Apple's dominance

Apple's dominance? Last I heard PC is still outselling Macs a couple of times over. The only market that Apple is claiming to dominate in computer sales in the so-called "Premium" market ($1,000 or more). They claim they sell 9 out of 10 computers in this market. That is not surprising especially when every Mac is over $1,000. And to think about it, a PC costing 25% less can outperform macs in overall performance.

Edit: I take that back, there is one Mac computer that starts less than $1K, and that is just $1.00 short of $1K. For 750 dollars, a PC would run rings around the MacBook's specs... LOL

Dominance indeed!

Don't want this to be a PC vs Mac debate...that would go on forever. Keep in mind apple's MARKETING campaign was aimed at IBM. I was referring to IBM's dominance in the PC marketplace. Sorry I said PC. In fact IBM doesn't even do PCs anymore since they sold their PC share to Lenovo. I meant IBM's dominance in the PC marketplace. As far as Apple's dominance - lets look at this forum/thread and try to connect the analogy correctly:

Apple > iPhone DOMINANCE in the phone industry as far as marketing, sales, continuous growth

Google > slowly growing through Android OS with different marketing strategies and using multiple hardware manufacturers. Different approach to making a dent in Apple's iphone dominance

Ooops, I apologize, didn't get the gist of what you were saying at first. It's probably the alcohol...

If I see PC, Mac in one statement I focus on it... LOL..

no apologies necessary!! Just pass the alcohol! LOL :D cheers to the EVO!... Burp...zzzzzz:D

It's been mentioned here a couple of times...MARKETING will be key for this phone to succeed. Look at the Droid. Before it went on sale they did a LOT of advertising for it and it worked. I am hoping that Sprint does the same thing for this phone. Also I hope they don't go with the "iPhone Killer" tag because it will not work. There are very little iPhone owners that will change their phone, so forget about the and try to get the tech savy Joe Smith to salivate for this phone and it will sell. That is of course my opinion...:D

I think I just came up with a strategic ad Sprint could use for the EVO....

Go through the last decade/or so of Cell phones that have been available.

From car phones, to the first digitals, 1G to 2G to 3G, showing different phones of those generations...the old Motorolas, to flip phones, to the first Treo's/Blackberry's

Then finally after 3G, say its time for the 4G "Evoluton".

Evolve to 4G with an EVO....available only on the Now Network.

I agree with what you're saying dxCoqui. Most of the media and those that own the iPhone are going to defend it to the nth degree. It

Make sure you copyright that...

You guys have the right idea. We want the EVO 4G to be successful and users can help by promoting it, just like the fans in the apple club have with their device.

Well I was thinking of like the original Droid commercials, where in the beginning of it, you had no idea what it was about.

Hell, even end off the ad just showing an EVO and saying to learn more go to www.whatever......

Seems like nowadays that people are more excited by commercials they dont truly understand, but then are able to log onto a site for more info.

I think my creative mind is flowing nicely today :)

Really good post @dxCoqui! I agree 100% the whole "iPhone" killer is getting tired. Anyone who chooses to go that angle (ahem instinct) feels even more stupid after falling far short of the comparison. I'm not doubting how the comparisons between EVO and iPhone will be inevitable, but the EVO can be marketed on its own credentials and a lot of people are ready for something "new"

I am still hearing other things saying that this will be a July release! Not 100% how reliable the source is but I am thinking it is pretty strong. As I hear more I will let you know. And I may just be able to get in touch with someone who can sell these bad boys as soon as possible! Im hoping to know more in the next two weeks or so.

wjackson14- "It will be released the first week of June. I'll try and get you i hard date."

is that the quote you were looking at? whats his source? i skimmed through and didnt seem like he answered..

Edit:
"Also the only apps that demoers of the device were allowed to use at CTIA were youtube and the camera app. Sprint has something up their sleeves reguarding everything else"
got goosebumps after reading that lol

Yea I think hes right about the UI thing. Something just doesnt seem right in all the videos ive watched (all of them lol). I dont know if it was just because the phone is still so new and people are already familiar with sense UI or what. I wouldnt be surprised if they revamp the entire UI somehow.

PS He is also saying it will come in white and black. Im def getting white

Oh and that jackson guy has been right about just about everything thus far. I think 1st week of June is very very likely

"Ohh and if any of you thought all the commercials for the droid were overwhelming you have noo idea what kind of a media blast Sprint is sturring up"

Hahahaha niceeeeee

That would make me happy. Last new Sprint phone I got was the Pre on release day. I was #2 in the line at my local mall. First time I lined up for a phone. For Evo, I think I would camp out to get one.

Well I only have 1 sprint store in my city, and its a damn kiosk! Hopefully I can preorder this thing online and just have it shipped, since I doubt the kiosk will even get them
