speculation, rumors, leaks about EVO release

By the way I just want to thank Everyone who has contributed to this thread so far. I love seeing everyones enthusiasm about the EVO and I'm sure @billsmed and the admins appreciate that we are all being civil with each other too. April 16th. 17 more days.

In fairness, the rudeness and flaming tends to start during two times:

  • When people start to get impatient for news, a-la the Incredible

  • When a device is released and there is inevitably a subsection of the audience that is underwhelmed and disappointed. The ones who really like a device and those who are disappointed tend to argue over who is a fanboy and who is a shill for the competition. Saw it on the Pre forum and others. I'm sure it will happen here come June. My guesses are battery life and 4G coverage won't live up to some expectations.

Yes, definately need to be wary of the frustration release dates not materializing. Partly why I am so eager to squash dates that just don't seem possible. I have heard a great theory for a launch date being June 6th or later, because the Palm Pre was the 6th and that means a pretty big group of folks that are ready to renew.

Regarding the battery, anyone that owned a Pre will be fine with whatever battery life the Evo has. Nothing could be worse that was the Pre started with, lol. My first Pre would die after 4 hours of standby. second one I got to last most of a day, if I barely used it. Never had it go past 30 hours on standby and that was with all the extras turned off, to max battery life. From what I read on HD2, it is definately doing better on battery, so Evo should as well.

I really believe a big splash is necessary, because I predict, as you do neodorian, that the pro-iPhone media is going to do everything they can to discourage adoption of the EVO 4G and WiMAX.

Interestingly, Jackson just sent me a PM after I posted a message at community.sprint.com. He says the rumors are flying that the iPhone 4G may be coming to Sprint. I don't see that as impossible and I hope the rumor is true. I mean if Apple is going to run on the WiMAX network, it must be okay.

Jackson also asked me to share this information with you: He said he knows for a fact that the EVO won't be released until June, and he thinks "April 16th is the day when Dan Hesse will announce the release [date] of the phone with pricing and such. This is where the tricks he said he was saving up his sleeve will be announced as well". One other thing Jackson mentioned to me is the EVO might be released with Android 2.2.

If April 16th is the day we'll learn more, then I'll look forward to that day.

Thanks, Jackson.

Hey guys this is wjackson14 thought it was about time i joined in this thread too haha

Yeah the 16th is the date where the facts of the phone will be announced. How? I'm not really sure probably somwhere on their website and all over the T.V. If any of you thought there was a media blast on the droid Sprint is taking media blast to a new level with the Evo. It will be released in early June and pre orders will be taken at best buy in May. The Nexus One will be rleased very shortly prob some time in April. that is very well what that meeting could be about as well on March 31st. Keep you all posted

If you guys noticed in the 4G ad campaign in which they show the iPhone using the 4G network (YouTube - Make Your iPhone

I have to believe you're right about the "media blast". The way I see it, Sprint needs to make sure the world knows about this phone by making a big splash like Verizon did with the Droid.

Thats an unbelieveable line up....with the EVO of course headlining.

Some people say that they would not like to see the iPhone on Sprint because <<insert your reason here>> and I say give me choices even if I don't like them or care. The more I have the better. If that was the case then we can all decide on the provider that works better for us.

I know, wishful thinking...

Personally, I have never been an iphone fan. The EVO blows that thing out the water whether it's 3g or 4g. It wouldnt hurt for the iphone to come to Sprint though. I think it would be a good thing.

It would be interesting to have both the iPhone 4G and EVO on the same network. I wonder if any AT&T subscribers would jump ship over to Sprint

yepp. There is still some interest as to wether it will sport an LCD or AMOLED screen. The one i saw before launch was LCD. But I'm a member at Sprint's devolopers site and there it says AMOLED. I contacted customer support and they sent me to the Sprint Evo page which interestingly enough has no info on the screen..at all

Otherwise there will be a large ram and rom increase and possibly andoird 2.2 alothough i can not confirm that

that is freakin hilarious lol.

my dad (who is a premier customer) got an email today. its just to show all the premier customers the phone and to sign up for alerts. same link that is on sprints homepage.

The videos from CTIA all say its a TFT LCD screen. Those were developer phones though and not final. I could see AMOLED being put in at the end. I think the AMOLED screens use less power? That would be a good thing considering.

It's my opinion that they are using TFT since they are already ordering the same screen for HD2. Is anyone even making 4.3" AMOLEDs in quantity?

WELCOME Supersonical to Android Forums!! For those of you who don't know...this guy is the "source" aka Jackson from sprint community. So please join me in welcoming him here so we don't have to keep going to the other site to look for his posts LOL
:D:D

Well look at this, I downloaded the developers guide.

So either this phone is going to get pushed back until 2.1 supports WiMax or it's going to launch with 2.2 that will fully support WiMax.

Thats what me thinks, bottom line, yeah this won't be coming til at least June most likely.
