speculation, rumors, leaks about EVO release

Hey, pal, nobody calls me a fizzle and gets away with it! Except
for that one guy who called me a fizzle and then he ran off. But nobodyelse has
ever called me a fizzle and got away with it! Actually thought, he was the only
one who ever called me a fizzle. But after today, only half the people who

haha. i cant wait to watch family guy episodes on hulu from my evo ;)

Yeah! I hope HULU allows it to play though. I've heard HULU places harsh restrictions on which devices are allowed to play its material. I don't think they are allowing any phones to play their content yet...someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I'd love to have HULU on my EVO too

OK im just gonna throw this out there because it's a rumor thread:

The EVO will be officially released for sale on June 5, 2010. The time on the evo on Sprint's site shows 10:54 so if you look at this as a date backwards it's a sign LOL

Yeah we're dying for news. Can't wait for April 16th for the media blitz

We tried that with the Pre, it didn't work :p.

I wouldn't bet on a June 6th release. From what I am hearing the Sprint is trying to release the Evo with 2.5, as of right now the release date is unknown. I heard this from a trusted source who is affiliated with Sprint, not going into details.

I had a talk with some sales guy in some Cellphone Kiosk, and I basically told him, that at the moment I'm not interested in buying a phone, since I was waiting for the Evo. I don't know if what he said was true, or just trying to make a sale. Anyways, to make the long story short, he told me that the Evo will come out at the end of September and would cost $299. My heart just sank all the while he's trying to pitch me to buy something else, and wait for another year to get a 4G phone, where he said that there will be more choices, and probably newer models as well. What he said was reasonable, but I said I'm not interested.

I do hope he's words are not prophetic, because quite frankly, I cannot wait till the end of September for an Android phone. I'll probably just buy the N1 out right and stay with T-Mobile, or go with the HD2 for 149.99 for another 2 year extension with T-Mobile.

Sprint should figure out their release date and price with the Evo, or they will lose potential customers every day it goes by. ***Don't mind me, I'm just venting my frustration from what I've heard from the sales guy*** :)

EDIT: On the bright side, he did show me the capabilities of 4G on a laptop. Which means, that my area is now on 4G. :)

pretty sure the kiosk guy knows even less than store reps so like a lot of look at it as rumors. sprint and any other cell provider will announce what ever and when ever they want. sucks! but we have choices. stay or go. and it does suck! I'm not the only one thats chomping at the bit for the evo. though I'm dealing with flipz 2.0d Rom :-D but as they say, good things come to those who wait....

Yeah I guess his sales aren't going so well if he's willing to bluntly lie and say it's coming END of September. First of all, EVERY SINGLE SPRINT official ads say it's coming SUMMER 2010. Worst case scenario, summer (in the US) ends the first Monday of September. Why the hell would they release it PAST the end of Summer when they've been saying it's due SUMMER 2010? Oh well...poor kiosk guy needs sales.

Yep and the store reps know less than the store managers who know less than us. :D

There is no reason to wait until September to launch the product, we have already seen it up and running. Clearly the hardware is about finalized and the biggest thing is just polishing up the software. The EVO would be dead in the water if it came out in September for $300.

I can't believe you're even thinking of believing something that came out of a dudes mouth that works at a kiosk in a mall.

You know 100x more about this phone from reading and posting in this forum than he does.

Thanks for the confidence boost mate. I needed it. Cheers!

Okay, let's see how long I can wait.... LOL :D

The only reason that I could see Sprint severely pushing the EVO back, is that they can not get the additional 4G markets up and running to have more areas and really push the EVO.

Otherwise, I see a summer release....wouldnt be surprised if it was June 6th, since that would be the day for a lot of PRE owners/Premier customers being able to upgrade.

Even though technically, Summer doesnt start til June 21st and doesnt end til September 21st.

Okay, take what I am about to speculate with a grain of salt, but let me throw it out there for you all to decide.

last night over in the Incredible thread member Montana posted some very good news for the members there about the Incredible. Granted I know this is the EVO section, but bear with me for a moment.

Anyway the post is here, so you all can also see what was posted, bottom line, it seems that Best Buy is expecting the Incredible device to be listed in their systems on the 25th of April (for either pre-sale or actual sale, it wasn't specific). For $599 before rebates and contract. Being that their current promotions end on the 24th, and the systems get updated the 25th, it does make sense that their phone will be listed. Now, this brings us forward to this section.
Its been mentioned that April 16 will be a big day for us EVO watchers simply because its expected that will be the day that either ...
A: the price and plans are mentioned officially,
B: An actual sale or presale date is mentioned,
C: Commercials will commence in full swing,
D: Any other tidbit that Sprint/HTC/Best Buy might throw to us eager folks. and
E: All of the above.

So this is my take on the situation.

On April 16th, you will see..
1: commercials coming out the wazoo on both online, and TV.
2: Best Buy advertises the EVO with Price and pre-sale starting April 25.
3: Sprint.com will also mention the new data plans (if any) for the EVO/Hotspot.
4: More previously hidden from public details of the EVO.

Thats my take on it and I'm sticking to it. :D

As for the price, if the Incredible is gonna be sold at $599.99, then it ties into what Supersonical mention a while back that the EVO may be around $699-$799 without contract. With contract and plan at Best Buy should go for $199-$299.

The Sprint EVO 4G

I agree with your take, Twospirits. If there is more than a one month gap between the release of the Incredible and the Evo, Sprint may lose out on some potential customers who will be locked into contracts before the Evo is released.

One way for people who are anxiously pining for the Evo but are desperately waiting for a great Android phone (which I feel the Incredible is as well) is to offer a $50 discount for preordering the Evo.

I've been with Sprint a long time, and before the announcement of the Evo, I was ready to switch to Verizon and get the Incredible. It was supposed to be released anywhere between late March to now April 25. As the release gap gets closer, the chances of me switching just keeps getting slimmer and slimmer. Here's to hoping we get a nice surprise next week with Sprint announcing the release of the Evo earlier than June 4! :D

At least we didn't have to go through what those guys at the Incredible thread went through. Our EVO was mentioned and CTIA and we already got official word from Sprint that it's coming this summer. Imagine having NONE of that and taking an anonymous source to spill the goods. Seeing all the ads now from Sprint and looking forward to the 16th is a TON better than getting absolutely nothing from Verizon. Cheers to the folks over at the Incredible thread though. I'm happy for them...finally the civil unrest can be at peace...until they start comparing their Incredible to our EVO ;)

lol so true. And that will be another 260000 post/350 page thread. lol

TS out (hiding from the Incredible crowd gathering)

Was at a presentation this morning where Dan Hesse (Sprint CEO) was the keynote speaker. Question was asked concerning the release date. Responded, approximately, "well we've publicly announced summer, but we'll just have to see..." Way he said it and smiled made it seem like early Summer - if not earlier. Also, he pulled out his own EVO during the presentation. If the CEO is using the EVO as his main phone, it can't be too long off. Finally, he announced 4G was coming to Kansas City this Summer.
