Speed test Results

Using the speedtest.net app, I've been getting speeds of about 0.8mbps down and 0.15mbps up. with this being my first smartphone, I am not sure if these speeds are normal, so what results have you gotten using this app?

Depends on where you are. Right now AT&T is having trouble with some of it's 3G base stations so speeds, especially upload speeds, are slower than normal.

I usually average 3 to 4.5Mbs down and 0.5 to 1.5Mbps up.

If that is your speed on average, it looks like I'm getting screwed here. I guess i'll have to wait for the problems to get sorted out before making a real judgement, though.I'm in central jersey btw, where at&t usually is pretty reliable.

I live in Central Delaware, not very many people here so there is less congestion on the network.
As far as I know, AT& is still trying to sort out the faulty 3G base stations.

ok doing this at 3am in oklahoma city,

2864 download 1574 upload so that's should be the best i could hope for.

ranges VERY greatly

I live in DFW, its all considered 3G

1mbps on the outskirts

4-7mbps downtown areas

usually 2-4mbps in most cases

3.1mb/400k was the best so far@ foxwoods casino
And slowest has been 750/10 at home.it varies greatly from place to place .

I was on a call with a high level technician for customer care for a customer, and the lady on the phone said it has been crazy on the east coast because some towers had failed so that could be what is causing your slow speeds.

In the bay area I am getting 3Mbt/s down average and 4-500 up

I'm on the east coast in my 3g signal is dropping to edge today very weak 3g is this maybe why?

Nice to see those upload speeds higher than 1Mbps...this means the Captivate does indeed supper HSUPA.

My speeds in Raleigh, NC hover around 2Mbps down / 0.4Mbps up.

The fastest I have seen was right at about 3Mb/s download 400kbps upload, the slowest was about 500 kbps down, 150, up.

Austin Texas area.

I swear, every time I run speedtest the following result is significantly reduced. I did the test 6 times in 3 minutes:

10.91
8.38
8.64
5.99
4.92
5.13

how odd...

So, AT&T seems to have restored HSUPA in my area (phoenix, az), because my wife's iPhone is getting upload speeds of about 1.2mb again. However, my captivate is getting about .2mb upload. So is it safe to say that HSUPA has been disabled on the captivate? Is it likely that there will be a way to enable it? I found a thread over on xda where someone had said,
"- Setting "ro.ril.hsxpa=2" and "ro.ril.gprsclass=12" in /system/build.prop does not enable HSUPA on the Captivate like it does on the Nexus One"

Anyone have any idea? This is just one more thing that makes me want to take this back. There are a lot things I like about this phone, but there's just been one disappointment after another...

people are so greedy. The iphone 4 is a premier device that is one of a kind, of course Att will enable HSUPA on it because it is there best device.

Why do you want it on Captivate? Are you uploading huge files? I see no reason for Att to gives Captivate owners HSUPA speed since iPhone sells more and brings in more revenue, why slow down there network for a few subscribers?
