Speedtest

Just running the speedtest app on the phone itself, I'm getting around 1.5 to 2.0Gbs down, and about 700 to 800Kbs up.

Not bad, better than basic DSL.

Wonder what 4G-LTE will run at. They're saying up to 100 times faster than the current 3G, but can't imagine it will be that to the masses. But, heck, if its half of that, I'll be ecstatic.

I don't have a screen cap app, and I figured I'd be faster for me to take a shot with my D90 and upload that than to search for a app and blah blah I don't want it on my phone anyway.
Here is my tests. I'm in CA and It says connected to a server in Wichita, KS. What ever that is. All my pings were in the 330ms range

Ping: 76 ms

Laptop home network (for shits and giggles) - Download: 23.89 Mbps

WTH, is that the FioS?? Dang, that's FAST!!!

Damn I didn't think VZW could do that kinda speed. Mind posting a pic? From the speedtest app goto results and click the one you got that speed with, then hit the menu button and hit email result. After you email it to yourself I imagine you know how to post a image here. (right click the image "copy image location" then in a post hit the image button and copy)

EV-DO Wikipedia said:
The EV-DO feature of CDMA2000 networks provides access to mobile devices with forward link air interface speeds of up to 2.4 Mbit/s with Rev. 0 and up to 3.1 Mbit/s with Rev. A.

That is super impressive if it's not a typo because your exceeding the maximum speed of Rev A.

aren't these results not accurate though? it all depends on the traffic, congestion, capacity of the individual cell site. also, doesn't it depend on the server the speed test app is connected though? just saying.

im sure there are many factors, but it's the best tool we have to compare with.

I compared my iPhone 3G to my Droid.
I am surely transferring my family over to Verizon after my At&t contract ends. :D

(Sorry about the Camera taken photo... I am selling my iPhone so I am unable to get the URL to the image)

A friend of mine that has the iPhone 3G and I did the tests too yesterday. I was getting 900-1200kbs DL (hi: 1500; lo:267 WTF??); 750-900 Up; ~330ms ping. He was getting 300-400kbs DL; 200-300 Up; ~2800-3000ms ping.
His server connecting was Los Angeles (we live in CA) mine was Wichita, KS (WTF?) It said the server in Wichita was only 45.89miles away....

I actually did a test with my Droid again my bosses 3GS Iphone...and hands down the Droid beat out the 3GS Iphone all day long...whether on 3G or WiFi...the droid out matched the Iphone...:D

DAMN I should move to LV! That is blazing fast especially in a city that has a good amount of users on the same network. I have to admit I was skeptical of the 3G DL result but all I can say now is whoa.

Yea mine has connected to a server in NJ a few times even though I live in Mass, and when I went to change servers it said I was like 250 miles from Boston or something weird.

yep i was thoroughly impressed with the verizon network...been on it since verizon started cause my parents and I at 1 point all worked for verizon prior to them selling their shares in hawaii...now only verizon wireless exists in hawaii...

but I have to say against my friends and bosses that have the 3GS iPhones...our Droids have beat them out in every category I have tested them in so far...:D

but if I do a WiFi test on the T3 line I have at work...not only will it blow your shorts off it will also make you catch a chubby...rofl

Haha I bet, my cousin at MIT showed me some insane speedtest results from the tech lab. I have Fios at home so I am happy with it, and on 3G I have gotten upto 2.7mbps which is wayyyyy better then the 160kbps I was getting with AT&T EDGE.

Hey so my wifi speedtest seems to be pretty slow on the upload side. I get about 10Mbps on the download side which is about the same as my ipod touch but on the upload i only get about 1 Mbps which is much less then the 10Mbps i get on my Ipod touch. I am on fios 35/20 connection with the router they supplied, a westell 9100 em i think. Any thoughts? is this a router thing or just the Droid cant handle higher upload speeds? thanks

Okay, I can confirm that the server you select can make a big difference:

I'm in a rural area (although I am on Rev. A). Will try again when I get to the big city. I also have a Z-Boost in my house; not sure if that's affecting the results... Pay no attention to the differences in "Distance"--all tests were run in the exact same spot.

Just for kicks:

Interesting how in all cases the faster download server had the slower upload times.

Dave

i wish someone could post these results on the iphone boards and shut the 3gs users up haha

I actually have this thread going on a forum that I moderate on...we blow away the 3GS iPhones...:D

uploading isn't necessary unless your attaching video/picture/mp3 files to an email or forum...etc...there's not much I would upload from my phone...even if there was I would transfer to my laptop and then upload from there...its just that much quicker on a computer...:D
