Spint Hero Battery Issues known fix Fix.. charges faster lasts longer

regardless of awake i think if the phone lasts 8 hrs with moderate - heavy usage be happy. i only get 6hrs. my phone has been off the charger since 6am it is now 11am and my battery is at36% with a 64% wake time. im pushing my exchange mail which is probably killing the battery. there are probably at least 10 apps causing the phone not to sleep so it will be hard to pinpoint.since writing this post my battery dropped another 2%. its up to sprint and htc to fix this.

Update:

I too have revered back to 100% awake all the time after getting it under control for a day. Here's what I have done today that could have contributed:

Downloaded Taskiller to see what it is and what it does. Uninstalled it 5 minutes later.

Messed around with Footprints to see what it was about - that did activate the GPS briefly.

Also, switched from the main retro clock to the smaller digital but the smaller clock was showing 03:11 at 11:11 am....????weird. So I went back to the big retro clock.

I figure I've got 2 options, take it back and get another one or wait for the 2.0 upgrade. Or buy another battery.

So you and I have both tried Taskiller. I have been reading on other forums that people thought that may be a problem. I am going to do a Hard Reset...Again. But this time, not install Taskiller. If you want to try the same and we can report back tomorrow after a night of charging? I will at least try it and give you an update-

I'm seriously considering taking the Hero back... and hopping from phone to phone (via 30 day take back period) until 2.0 comes out.

I'm not a desk-based person. If I keep it plugged in all day, the phone is not in my pocket... which is where I need it to be.

I really hope HTC and Sprint come up with a solution to this and quick.
This is rapidly giving Android a black eye to all my iphone toting friends.
I'm just sayin'....

After a hard reset, how do I get all my contacts and everything back to the way they are now? It was enough of a pain to go through and combine all the Google contacts with old phone contact once. I do not relish the thought of doing all that again.

I've tried syncing my phone to my laptop to try and back them up that way... but I don't use Outlook anymore, so it doesn't like me.
Is there a way to sync all of my contacts with something other than Outlook?

When you say hard reset you just mean a battery pull and not a factory restore, right?

If you log in to your gmail account on your computer and view your contacts, you should see the phone contacts that were on your Hero. Everything should sync back to your phone once you set up your gmail account on the Hero.

Update:

Just took phone back to Best Buy at lunch and got a new one. The new one is fresh off the truck and has the With Google on the back. Seems more responsive and the awake % working. We'll see what happens. Thank goodness all my stuff is on gmail.

Also noticed a newer PRL...whatever that is...on this phone...1.7 something and my old phone was 1.68 I think.

So here's my conclusion:

Phones that say HTC on the back are the early build phones with the minor glitches.

Phones that say 'with Google' on the back are the more friendly ones.

That's my unscientific opinion.

Mine says Google on the back and has 1.7, but sadly the same problems as everyone else...

weird. I'm still holding out hope that 2.0 comes soon. I really like the phone and can deal with this sort of thing...and I just found out a regular Blackberry charger works with the phone so I can charge with existing equipment.

i think you may be correct. my (un)google lol one was a lot less friendly than my google one.

even with an awake time of 100% my phone last 5 hours with moderate to heavy use. The SMS problem is not the only issue so i would suggest stop hard resetting the phone and stressing over it. sprint and htc have to fix the rel issue whatever it may be. i got 7 hrs today with mod to heavy use that seems to be on par with most phones i have used. if you have auto sync on you must realize your battery will drain fast.

Can someone please help me with this slight problem? I would be very greatful!

I dl'd handcent, and I have been trying for hours to disable the stock messages ap. I go to manage applicatins, clear data, reboot the phone, go to people select a contact to send message to, get the pop up to select which ap, hendcent or messages, check handcent, and check the little box to make default (i think thats what it says) and every incoming message give me TWO notifications. PLEASE help as I am going crazy over this! Thanks!! I have rebooted the phone about 10 times. Sorry, long day and frustrating

EDIT..OK OK!! I got it! I disabled the notification for messages and that fixed it....sorry

How do you disable in the stock message app?

the way i switched to Chomp as my default is using the notification alert when i received a text. when it showed one was delivered i went to the status bar and pulled down the notifications. i clicked on the text (there were two alerts for the same message) and clicked on one. i can't remember if i did the stock alert or the chomp alert, but when i did it asked me if i wanted to select a default action. chomp or stock sms.

then go into the stock app and turn off notifications in the settings menu.

also, make sure under: wireless controls > mobile network settings > enable always-on mobile is UNCHECKED.

Mine says: PRI 60652 PRL 1.70_003

I have taskpanelx installed, usually running between 60-90mb available, have had it off the charger about 6 hours now, and since I just got it today, its been used alot and has a 52% on time, and I dont see an actual number right away but counting the bars in the "phone info" area, I still got 60% battery.

this is a "with google" phone.

OK nothing I do makes this any less than 100 % , was able to set handcet as default by going into contacts, then rebooted the phone, turned off screen for 5 minutes . then back on and checked , still 100% cpu ??????

It will take time for the awake time to drop.. Its kinda an average. After 24hrs mine dropped from 100% to 10%
