Root Splash Screen

Thats the first thing I looked at earlier. Looks simple enough aswell. Dan when you say it failed for you it didnt mess up your phone did it?? I'l give it a go once you give me the all clear lol

No no, just the splash screen wouldn't work / flash properly. Everything was fine with the phone.

The worst that can happen is you dont have a splash image that is visible. Its not really a bricking situation as the splash screen is not a requirement to boot, unlike hboot or radio.

Ok Im doing something wrong. Perhaps the commands isnt right. I extracted the nbimg to the root of the C:\ on my computer and put the splash1.bmp in the sdk/tools directory but teh command cant find the path to nbimg. What command did you guys use??

ive always used android flasher
but the command would be fastboot flash splash1 splash1.img
or fastboot flash splash1 splash1.bmp
i dont know if it understands with bmp though

Thats why Im trying to get the command to find nbimg. Dan and Eddy have done this before so Im hoping they can guide me.....

found a work around

use android flasher BUT and a BIG BUT

make sure android flasher is extracted and not just running from the zip
DO NOT CONNECT DEVICE
go through the process of flashing the spash without device connected
it should hang
go to the data folder of android flasher and you should have a spash1.img
copy and past that to your android sdk tools folder

flastboot flash splash1 splash1.img

where theres a will theres a way :P

you will need to use task manager to end process on android flasher and fastboot.exe as it stays hung

Tried that. No img file on data. So I proceeded to kill the utility through task manager this is where I get the pop up messaging asking if I wanted to save modified file extracted from android flasher on the archive. I assumed that was img so I clicked yes but winrar diagnosis message said cannot create c:\users\ginga\appdata\local\temp\androidflasher_1.6.1.rar Access denied. Any ideas what that means?

You know what this is getting long winded now. Who has a working flash utility?? If one of you could do me a huge favour by converting my splash image bmp to img Id be very grateful.

omg gingaB
you are not running this from the zip/rar are you?

you need to extract the whole folder as it has to save stuff in the data folder
use winrar or 7z and rightclick and extract to

dont be lazy and run things from in the rar/zip archive it will end in your demise

Ooops! lol where should I extract the android flasher.exe to? What specified folder? It already exist in the local\temp directory

extract it anywhere. desktop. The entire folder, not just the exe. Just double click the rar and drag the folder within it to the desktop

Argghhh!!! I extracted the whole folder to teh desktop and ran the process again but it blooody froze like before!!! Ive had enough of this for today. If anybody got a working utility I just need them to convert the bmp to img file. Thats all I want!

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

YESSSSSSS! Done it! I didnt realise the img file was stored in the data folder of the android folder and all I had to do was copy that to the sdk\tools directory and flash it through fastboot! Rasta pointed that out to me earlier but back then I didnt extract the flasher to the desktop so nothing showed up on the data file. Splash works like a charm now! Big thanks to Rasta and Dan once again!

I have to say the flash utility has been an EPIC failure!!! Didnt work for me with bootanimation and splash. But doing it manually is just as easy tho.

Damn there is nothing left for me to mod now! My lil fun project has ended for now *scratches head*

Lets see what gingerbread brings for MIUI Im sure there will be something in it that needs modding :D

Haha totally forgot about that!! But I think thats unnecessary for me at the moment. I have truckloads of space on my internal! But knowning meself I'll end up doing it next time Im bored :D

Cool. Whats the difference between your version and ones on the alpharev site?? Apart from the more obvious what else yu gain out of this? Im unfamiliar with this stufff at the moment.
