[SPOILERS] Walking Dead Discussion

I think the way they used the video camera footage made it really hit home just how crazy they look to the people who haven't had to survive on the outside.
Rick's comment as soon as they walked through the gates that "it's a good thing we're here" dovetails nicely with his comment at the end. Shows he was calculating the whole time.
Agreed that Carol's little miss helpless act is pretty hilarious. :p

Almost believable if you ignore the massive gun she was carrying when they entered. I suppose it's quite good strategy to disguise how badass you are if you can. They seem to think that only Rick, Michone, and Daryl are tough - as evidenced by that guy getting a whupping from Glen.

I forgot to mention this last week. I thought it was sort of funny when they saw the stash of water on the road with the "from a friend" note - everyone was scared to drink it because they thought it might be dangerous? They were all sad/tired/starving/thirsty/etc. & they were actually too afraid to drink the water? I just thought it seemed odd in that situation, you'd think since they pretty much had no hope, they wouldn't even really care if the water was poisoned or something bad, because it would have let them out of their current misery (the only exception I think, would be Rick not wanting harm to come to his kids).

Just seemed weird to me given their supposed mental states that they'd be that concerned some random person would actually be trying to kill them (like seriously, who do they think they are that they'd even think someone might go to the trouble of wasting water to try to kill them off??)

yeah.. I agree..
the Black girl that was really not caring any more.. self destructive mode..
she would be the first to grab and drink it.

Carol is trying to hide her self from the new people. looking old, weak, and non-threatening.
so she can be a hidden weapon.

when they took the weapons.. they said.
the weapons are still theirs and they can have them back.. when and if they need to go outside the gates.
but when the 3 go outside for first patrol... they only got hand guns.

the ending.. it was interesting and creates conflict.
but.. I was NOT happy about what Rick said. he has become what he warned the new leader about.

I think the way Rick said "we'll just take this place" was meant to remind us of the Governor when he said he "took" Herschel and Michonne and was going to take the prison.

Okay, before we move on to the new episode I just wanted to mention my favorite line from last week. Daryl to Carol wearing her suburban soccer mom outfit: "you look ridiculous". :D

I'm re-watching last week's episode, I laughed when what's-her-face offered to cut Rick's hair & he said "you don't even know me" - to which she responded "I can take care of myself". I thought those were weird things for both of them to say. Apparently you can only cut the hair of someone you KNOW, & I guess it's really really dangerous to cut Rick's hair...

In our world it would be an odd thing to say, but I can understand it in the context of what Rick has lived through, like "how can you trust some strange man enough to be alone with him?" He could be an evil person for all she knows. (still might be lol) Aaron was the last stranger they met and look how they treated him. Her response was just her trying to be cool, but obviously ridiculous. :p

For this week's episode, I didn't see it coming that Daryl would be the first one to go soft and refuse the gun.

Yeah but he'd actually be the more vulnerable person while getting a haircut, with his back to her & scissors in her hands... which made her "I can take care of myself" line seem even sillier to me.

That surprised me too! And when Aaron told Daryl he wanted him to go out recruiting with him, I almost thought Daryl was going to start crying. I get that he might be a little emotional in that situation, but he's been so much of the "strong, silent type" through so much of the show up until now, I really didn't expect to see him softening up so quickly like that.

Yeah, I saw that too. Daryl almost cracked when Aaron told him that he (Daryl) knows the difference between good and bad people. I think Daryl has been feeling like an outcast so much that it touched him to have somebody reach out and feel like he really "gets" him. Will be interesting to see if this sets up a conflict between Daryl and Rick, if Rick wants to take over and Daryl is buying in to the community.

Daryl as a recruiter?
Aaron looks like someone to trust. and might have similar friends.

does Daryl look like someone you would blindly follow? and what kind of buddies would he have?

Daryl doesn't look friendly....but if you're looking for somebody who knows how to stay alive, he's the guy.

However....it's entirely possible that Aaron & Co are making him a recruiter so he spends as much time away from the community as possible...being that he's the most likely to investigate.

Right now, Daryl just looks tired & pretty filthy (the guy seriously needs to take a shower & clean himself up!) so he's definitely not the poster boy for Alexandria that Aaron comes off as.

And I just can't imagine Daryl delivering any kind of smooth recruitment speech. I mean, I like the character & all but him as a recruiter?? He almost needs to develop a real personality to be able to pull that off.

I'm also a little puzzled about the whole recruiting thing in general. Rick's group hasn't run into very many living humans in while - maybe one or two here or there - so where exactly has Aaron been recruiting people from? There don't seem to be a lot of people in Alexandria & I get the impression they've been recruiting for a while. The more time goes by, I would think there'd be less & less chances of finding nice people to bring into town. Although with all the talk of putting someone in the tower & patrolling the walls, etc., I'm thinking there's going to be some outside group of horrible people they'll end up fighting as a cliffhanger.

Oh I just thought of something else. The kid that Scarol threatened to tie to a tree is Rick's new girlfriend's son, so now that's two people in danger of getting on Rick's bad side (Daryl & Scarol). Maybe the end of season cliffhanger will be everyone getting mad at Rick & him getting kicked out of Alexandria or something. He could actually turn bad & next season, hook up with crazy bad guys & come back & try to take over the town!

Maybe they have recruited successfully....I get the feeling the turnover is higher than they claim. People in, people out.

Oh I guess that's true - considering the leader banished a couple people & then her son got a couple more killed... they do have a high rate of "turnover" LOL

Don't forget about the walker with the W carved on its forehead. Remember the chopped up bodies at Noah's community, and then the trucks full of body parts when they were leaving there? That has to be foreshadowing something, right? I have some ideas from the books, but they change a lot of stuff for the show. Still, I think it's safe to guess that there are bad guys out there.

re: Daryl as recruiter, Aaron could be the "face" man, making first contact, while Daryl is a master tracker and his skills would come in handy out there. Assuming Daryl really is a good judge of character, they seem to watch and listen for quite a while before approaching a new group, so I think it could work. Plus, nothing says Daryl can't clean up a bit lol.

I don't read the books or comics or anything outside of watching the show, so it's all a surprise to me when stuff happens. Yeah the body parts & the W are definitely weird things that must mean something. But as far as other people, I think it'll be interesting when/if some other group shows up & causes havoc, when Rick's group has been moving around for a while now & hasn't really run into anyone but walkers.
