[Sprint] 3rd Generation Evo Speculation

I know it's very early, but considering what's being put in the Htc Rezound/Vigor and what's going on with Sprint's network next year I think there is plenty to be looked into and discussed here.

The Rezound/Vigor is rumored to have 16GB on board storage plus a 32GB sd card, which makes me jealous, and also leads me to believe that they'd do the same thing with the next gen Evo. With 16GB on board and 64GB sd cards on the market now, I'd be ridiculously jolly to rock 80GB in my pocket as a huge music fan and collector.

Considering this wouldn't launch until June they have plenty of time to add something special to their SLCD that they're putting in the Rezound. Maybe a "Plus" or something marketable and attractive, also leading to a possible name: Htc Evo HD.

Also I've read a few things about new LTE chips that AT&T plans to use that supposedly have the 3G also built into it, which saves power? Don't quote me on that and please feel free to clear this up, as I'm pretty new on LTE. Either way I'm hoping the next Evo will be LTE, as they'll be rolling out the network all next year and LTE-Advanced the year following. It would also be kind of neat to have the option to use the WiMax network if you're in an area that doesn't have LTE yet, though I don't know that they'll launch LTE with any of those circumstances in place.

I've read that the next Transformer tablet will have a quad-core processor, which is pretty intense sounding, though I don't know if it's completely necessary. I'd be happy with a higher clocked dual-core, but who knows what the smartphone market will be like by then.

Anyone have any realistic expectations or even anything fun to add here?

Yea.. I really hope their is a 3rd generation EVO. I think your predictions are right on, and an "EVO HD" would be pretty cool. The timing is good with everything: Quad-core Snapdragon, Sprint LTE (Network Vision), and (I'd imagine) screen resolution of 720 becoming the high-end standard. Something like this would definitely be my next Sprint phone come June/July/Aug.

Edit: Here is what Qualcomm/Snapdragon has cookin'. See the S4 with 3G/LTE mulitmode. http://androinica.com/2011/08/qualcomm-processors/ Put this in an EVO with a 720 screen on Sprint... and consider it sold.

Long live the EVO!

We are in an era of bigger screens. I think its safe to assume it will be called the EVO HD. Along with the possible specs you mentioned, I would bet there would be some sort of game changing function. What will it be? I have no idea. I wasn't really into the 3D and I wasn't feeling the more narrow screen. I hope Sprint and HTC doesn't disappoint this time around. Also I will be keeping my eyes on the Galaxy S III.

I'm skeptical of a quad-core processor, to be honest. It seems like spec-inflation without a whole lot of benefit. The Snapdragon S4 will supposedly come in single, dual, and quad flavors, supporting up to a 2.5ghz clock; who says the first one out the gate has to be quad? It might just be a souped-up dual core.

I would prefer HTC focus on improving the quality of the screen over simply making it bigger. An HD screen would be nice, but not if it's going to tip the scales at mini-tablet size. And what about battery life? All the wizbang in the world means squat if your phone can't make it through a day (*cough*Thunderbolt*cough).

The perfect Evo for me would be one with solid sound and reception (including LTE), a day of battery life with moderate use, good camera, nice screen, plenty of storage, and fast enough not to lag, all wrapped up in an attractive package with excellent build quality (no light leakage or separating screens, please). If this means something with a dual core processor and "only" a 4.3" screen, so be it.

I meant to mention that I've read the Rezound screen is 4.3 or 4.5 inches and 720p, which is a BFD for me. I've always loved the pixel density on Retina Displays, though I prefer a bigger screen. I'd love to have it be the 4.65 or whatever inches that the Galaxy Nexus has, though I'd prefer not wasting screen with software buttons over the capacitive ones we use now.

Also I'd love to have Beats tech in it as well, so hopefully we get that in all future Htc phones. They could call it the Htc Evo HDeez Nuts!!

^
That made me LOL.
I agree with everything, but I wont go higher than a 4.3 or 4.5" screen. to me, 4.3/4.5" is the sweet spot.. and at 720 res, well, the density and clarity would be simply stunning.

For some reason I'm thinking they are going all out with the screen. Maybe 4.7-5 in. of display.

I was hoping somebody would catch that lol

Honestly I don't mind even a 5 inch or so screen, though we won't really see that in the Evo line for quite awhile, if at all. The Samsung Galaxy Note is badass, though not available in the US yet. Also I'm an Htc fan, so I dunno that I'd go for a Samsung.

I hope so. The bigger the better IMO.

I'm an HTC fan as well. But to be honest, they havent impressed me lately. Samsung is on a roll. I have no loyalties when it comes to brand. I would get a Galaxy S III in a micro second. The screens are just gorgeous and the processors are fast. I wish the EVO brand would have those screens. 2012 is going to be exciting.

I would consider getting it if it was better, but so far they've been very similar spec wise. I see people liking the screens better on Samsungs and I see why, but Sense has some features that I really like that kept me with Htc. Also Samsung's lack of speedy updates and a few hardware issues pushed me away. We'll see what they launch next summer, but with the Beats tech and being such a fan of Sense it'll be tough. I do have to admit though, TouchWiz has gotten quite a bit better between the first and second generation Galaxy phones, from what I've seen.

The Epic (both of them) have so many great qualities, especially the Epic Touch-the Specs are amazing.. amazing cam, amazing processor, screen, amazing FAST.. i could go on for a page or two. Hell, even TouchWiz is AWESOME, now. But, I can say, this will be my first and last Samsung unless there is an update from Sammy soon to fix the signal issues. I've got 3 lines on Sprint and the EVO gets far better reception than do the Samsung's. See my post here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-ep...rvice-los-error-status-fix-2.html#post3383267 I'm frustrated and stuck between a rock and a hard place. If Samsung addresses the problem, Ill get the GSIII with LTE next summer, if not... I'll get the 3rd gen EVO with LTE... and run back to HTC begging them to forgive me for ever betraying them. The EVO 4G was just an all around beast... mecca of its time.. still relevant.. and just worked! HTC is also awesome with updates.. they just OTA updated the original EVO..

I am a big HTC fan as well. I also have an NS4G that I do like a lot but my EVO 3D (and my husband's EVO 4G for that matter) spanks it in reception. We encountered this a couple weeks ago when we went out of town. It just appears that with each Samsung release it seems great on paper but falls a bit short in real life use. I am basing my opinion on my own personal use, so of course your results and findings may differ. Just seems to me they would have already improved their radio at this point since it has been a known issue with their devices for quite some time now.

I still love my EVO....which is why I didn't bother to get a new phone this year. But next year I'm looking to retire it. The top three phones I'm looking forward to is the Galaxy Nexus, EVO HD, and the Galaxy S III. One of those three will be mine. I love upgrade time. :)

How does "HTC Evo HD 3D 4G-LTE" sound?

Here are my speculative specifications for my next upgrade in 2013:
2.4ghz Six Core Processor
5-inch 1080p HD 3D Display
2gb DDR3 RAM
64gb Internal
Dual-10mp Carl-Zeiss Camera
3000+ mAh battery standard
Wireless-Charging ala'Touchstone-Type System
Android Jelly Bean
LTE-Advance 4G Radio
Built-In Kickstand

Considering my upgrade isn't until 2013, I don't think that's too crazy. I could be wrong =)

Not sure about the 5 inch display, but the rest of it sounds really good!

What did you mean by narrow screen? Are you saying you didn't like how the Evo 3D screen was narrower than the Evo 4G? If so, then I hate to break it to you, but a 720p screen has the same aspect ratio as the Evo 3D (which is the same aspect ratio of 1080p), so a 720p Evo HD will be just as narrow as the Evo 3D...

We're talking the difference between 16:10 (Evo 4G) and 16:9 (HD standard) FWIW. I'll take either aspect ratio at the type of pixel densities we're talking about for 720p on a ~4.5" screen. As long as PenTile is not involved.
