The droid just got the update to 2.1 not a big wow factor it looks like over there.

They are already at 2.0 - the Hero is going to be going from 1.5. Can not compare the wow factor on these upgrades.

And the funny thing is, most of the things Droid users were anxious for are things we already have through Sense (pinch-zoom in albums and the browser, and 7 homescreens which they have to get through 3rd party apps)
will be able to change the notification and trackball colors with 2.1?

Notifications, we can already do that. Trackball no, that's hardware not software.

I just went to XDA's and was reading tne Fresh 2.0d and it's 250 pages long..ROFL

That's where you got it from right?
Can you use the recover image to wipe the phone then update to fresh 2.0d?

New here, and I'm seriously tempted to go the Fresh 2.0d route; I've a Sprint Hero, unmodded, only downloaded one app so far - TasKiller. Is there a faq , step-by-step guide as to how to install 2.0d without the 'B' word happening (as in bricking)?
Any help appreciated.

So, it's not tomorrow, April 9th, as they were rumoring?
Looks like not. Also probably not April 16 or April 17 or April at all.
Take a look at the mod forums over at XDA about the Sprint 2.1 leak. There are way too many reports of random *no audio* on phone calls which may or may not be fixed by a patch. Plus other glitches.
I will take a while for Sprint to investigate and fix these problems in house. I mean, it is a freaking phone first and foremost!

The update will be ready for us when it is ready, most likely soon. No comment to a first level phone or chat rep will speed things up.
