Root [Sprint/Cricket] Just rooted. Suggestions?

Welcome to the wild world of custom ROM's compadre :D

I've never ran chemistry myself. I'll have to check it out sometime. Been primarily running cm10.1 nightlies

When I get more comfortable flashing roms I will take a look at cm :) I really didnt know what I was missing out on all this time: built-in hotspot, removed some bloat and overall faster phone! I am going to look for a 4.2.2 touchwiz rom

There aren't any. If you want 4.2.2 itll have to be AOSP

Sounds like the chemistry ROM isn't based on the newest OTA :o

There's probably a way to stop it, but I've never tried to stay on an older ROM. Someone else would have to chime in with that.

Needless to say you do not want to accept that ota update

I'd really suggest you give moar or the peoples rom a try. I know theyre on the latest OTA and have huge customization abilities. My personal recommendation would be MOAR. The morphology themeing will blow you away :p

I flashed TPR this morning and it is awesome!! I'm now on 4.1.2 with a custom kernal as well. Great battery life, too! This rom stuff is fun! :)

Also, the XDA forum for TPR is very people friendly. If you have rom questions (heck, even if you don't) feel free to post over there.

Good to know that. I find the Android folks in general are friendly. On here especially. People really take their time to help you when you have even a small question. I began this thread knowing I would get excellent help. I followed everything as directed and it worked. :)

Gapps are google apps. Developers arent allowed to distribute them with an AOSP ROM, so you have to download those seperately and flash them after your ROM flash.

If you're going to try AOSP, I'd go with either CM10.1 or liquidsmooth
cm:

Gapps file to flash AFTER your ROM:

I'd also suggest the dkp kernel :) (Also flashed AFTER the ROM. Doesnt matter if its before or after gapps)

If you flash the kernel, let me know and I'll show you how to change your governor if you don't know how to do that yet

Another question: so I keep reading that CM is a cool rom and I'm wanting to give it a try. Currently I'm downloading the gapps file and the CM. I realized that both are really lightweight downloads. CM is only 166mb--is that accurate?

Anyway, when I go about flashing cm, are the steps as followed? :

Do regular wipe

Flash cm

Reboot

Go back into recovery and flash gapps?

What would happen if someone just flashed cm without the gapps? No Google apps?

Just curious. Thank you for any continued help!

CM or any aosp rom is always going to be light weight like that because it's pretty much stock Android. No touchwiz or anything like that. So yes being 166mb is normal, most aosp is actually smaller than that.

It's really personal preference how you flash.

How i do:

1) nandroid
2) full wipe
3) flash rom
4) flash gapps
5) reboot

If you didn't flash gapps, yes you would have no google apps at all, play store included.

Yes, all aosp ROMs are very lightweight you'll realize how bloated touhwiz when you use it.

I can't use touchwiz anymore because its so laggy in comparison

Do your wipe, Flash cm, then gapps, then your kernel if wanted, then reboot

Edit
DS you ninja!

Ninja? Ya I'm a pretty quick slayer :p

I hear ya about the laggy part, I've finally switched back to aosp (eclipse), always starts to lag way bad after about a week of a fresh flash.

Thank you :)

Sorry if I am being extra specific, but exactly how do I flash cm and then go flash gapps right after?

If your using twrp, load the rom as if your about the flash it, then you should see an option to add a second zip file which you use for your gapps. That way it would flash gapps directly after the rom.

If clockwork, flash your rom first, then navigate back to the the main recovery screen and flash your gapps the exact same way.

Wait I think I understand. When I go install cm from my internal SD like usual, I will still be at the recovery screen after and then I go back into where my gapps is and load that too. Ok I think I got it. And yes one of the reasons I want to get out of touchwiz is the bloat. I can still feel the bloat here in touchwiz. ROMs are cool but cm seems like it's super lightweight and that's what I'm looking for. Something fast

^^^

That's exactly the way to do it.

But if your not comfortable with that, you can still reboot back into recovery after flashing the rom to flash your gapps.

No harm in doing it that way, just takes a little bit longer.

Thank you, Dragon. I appreciate your help along with Rxpert's as well. Headed to sleep soon. I'll let the rom and gapps load overnight and flash it in the morning.
