[Sprint] How to Root Sprint Galaxy Nexus for Dummies [Windows, Mac, Linux]

Good catch Urge.

Here's how to prevent it from unzipping (FOR MAC ONLY).

Open Safari Click Safari (next to the apple icon in the upper right corner) Preferences General Tab At the very bottom of the general tab UNCHECK "Opensafe files automatically" Once you uncheck that, redownload the zip, put it on the sd card and then reflash

Keep in mind, when you flash the zip file in recovery, you do not open it. All you need to do is highlight and install. That's when it will give you the option to swipe to confirm the action. Hopefully this works. Let us know.

Okay, so is it that TWRP won't show the 'swipe to install' option if it isn't a zip?! Because, that is awesome of them! :D

Somehow it got unzipped, my guess is you use safari as your browser. You need to redownload the file after turning off automatic unzip or whatever it is (check the troubleshooting post) When you flash stuff it needs to be in the .zip format for future reference.

THANK YOU, haha.. finally rooted :D:):smokingsomb::smokingsomb::smokingsomb::smokingsomb::smokingsomb::smokingsomb::smokingsomb:

That's great. Time to flash some ROMs. Read up on a few and pick a few to try. I recommend jelly bean, specifically skank (cm10).

Am i supposed to have no service? LOL

You will for like the first little while or at least I did, give it about 10-15 min. If it doesn't correct itself we can fix that lol. As far as ROMs go I would also recommend skank cm10 or maybe AOKP. CM10 is more polished right now though.

Hmmm, thats not my thread and I don't know what the first one is. When you flashed the ROM did you wipe cache and dalvik, also did you make a backup before flashing?

sorry *frenchys i believe it was, and yes, yes i did.

Okay well lets try something before we restore that. Go into setting>about phone>system update and update prl and profile. If that doesn't work or if the settings are not there, restore the backup and we can go from there.

okay, so how do i restore backup? The first method did not work.

Boot into recovery and under backup/ restore. Select restore and choose the name to restore. You probably only have one unless you backed up more than once. They are stored by date.

I am having an issue when I boot into Fastboot mode and I plug in the phone the only hardware that shows up is android 1.0 even after I install the samsung drivers and reboot. when the phone s on it shows up right

Update it worked never mind! Thanks for the great tutorial

I cant get any commands to register in fastboot. Adb works just fine when my phone is booted up. I used urge's instructions. I notice that my driver while in fastboot is "android 1.0" and when I enter the bootloader unlock command it just hangs at "waiting for device". Any thoughts?

Edit: going to try this later tonight if I get the chance. It has to be a fastboot driver issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614827

I did and no dice. Does that package contain both the fastboot and adb drivers? It's weird that adb works just fine, but fastboot does not. I was able to enter this command and boot into the booloader just fine

adb reboot bootloader

but after that, in device manager it shows the "android 1.0 device" device instead of Samsung blah blah or whatever it's supposed to show. What file do I need to point it to in order to update the driver manually? I think that would fix my problem. I am somewhat tech savvy, but admittedly not a genius when it comes to windows drivers.

Well it seems as though the PDAnet drivers have success too so I think I will try those and report back as to how it goes.

I don't quite know because I have never used windows to root a gnex. The file I have should however have all the needed drivers.

Well for whatever reason, I installed the PDAnet drivers and it worked. Got it from the GNEX Toolkit thread over on XDA. Maybe have another fastboot driver for a different device that didn't work or something.

Bootloader unlocked!!!
