Root Sprint is out!

From what I've previously read, they are simply turning off the collection of information. That means CIQ is still going to be installed on all those devices and from the sounds of things there will not be a fix to remove it.

Its the power of the software on the phone itself that concerns people... not that sprint wants to know how goodd my signal is.

If someone figured out how to gain control of the programs and use it for malicious intent and its still installed on all those devices it wont matter that Sprint isnt collecting data anymore.

I believe this is the big threat that TrevE foresaw. IMHO. If a hacker found a way to use this software to gain root access wirelessly, and monitor the users traffic, all kinds of personal info can be obtained.

I really don't think CarrierIQ or Sprint is collecting anything illegal like stated above. It's not in their best interest to do so.

I personally don't allow that stuff on my phone so a "percieved" threat is removed. I'm paranoid, I know. :D

I read the article on Good and Evo the other day. Its interesting however I really don't think Sprint will give up trying to understand its network nor How the equipment itself it working. Nor do I imagine that they themselves would be concerned about our Text, Emails, Web viewing habbits, or anything else we generally do. The Government on the other Hand is probably extremely interested. I also don't agree with everyone taking a big dump on the company who wrote the software. They have a product and its for sale just like a Gun Manufacturer If I buy a gun and shoot someone is it their fault? I think I would have more respect for Sprint / HTC had they just came out and said yes we use it to collect information and the fact that it can do so much more really wasn't a concern until now. We just don't think like criminals do.

^ Seems like I saw something that said the FBI had access to all this information.. which is a bit scary.. but of course, I don't know if that source (can't even find it) could be trusted at all.

Still good find. I clicked this link earlier today on my phone (not signed it), but at first I thought it was going to say that sprint was closing lol. :D ;)

Glad it is something (relatively) good. I mean, the software is still there, but not being used.
