Root [Sprint] Preparing Network?

Tejer

Android Enthusiast
So I'm not sure if this is a root related issue, so sorry if not. Anyways, it seems that quite frequently I get a preparing network notification on the top left side of the status bar. Does anyone know why this is or what's going on with that? Is it just normal or something else?

I believe it is the phone "refreshing it's view of the network".

Some users have noted that if you are in area without LTE, that disabling LTE under Settings, Network Settings, Mobile Network that it stops. The users that I have seen reporting this issue have been in an area without LTE service.

So, that is just my assumption.

That would make sense, I have it set to connect to either, but we have no LTE in phoenix. thought I'd leave it in in hopes of waking up one of these years and I'd see it connect to 4g.

Yeah, I leave mine on all the time too ;) LTE service is inching up the highway in my direction. LTE typically goes "live" before it's officially announced so one day we will rejoice when we see the LTE service on our phone one morning hahaha :D

I'm just glad to hear that this is 'normal' among the rest of my fellow users. It must just be something Samsung has implemented for whatever reason to notify us that it is swapping towers or whatever stupid thing. I've seen there are a couple apps that correspond to it, but I'm not going to remove them.

I could rant all day about how silly it is that Phoenix is like the 6th largest city in the U.S., yet the entire West coast has pretty much been neglected with LTE when it comes to Sprint. I've tried doing research and it seems that Sprint's Clear Vision plan is supposed to upgrade every tower that provides 3g to be able to do 4g LTE by the end of 2013 if i'm not mistaken. It looks like they have had this plan for a few years now though and at this rate I should have spotty LTE at best by 2018 if I hang on to this phone :D

I THINK by 2015 they want to do away with 3G

I used to get on the internet by dialing a number and I was charged by the hour. My first cell phone could only be used in a car and it certainly didn't have gorilla glass LOL

You're referring to Dial-Up ;) Believe it or not...its still highly in use today.

Also, granted old phones didn't have gorilla glass. BUT. You couldn't kill those. I had a nokia...something. Ran it over about 3 times, dropped it from my roof...etc. Still worked!

LOL!! Yep! Dial-up. Around 1995 I used to go to the local grocery store and stock up on the AOL disks that had 40 free hours or whatever. I remember someone in the house yelling "get off the internet I need to make a phone call".

Yeah, the old cell phones were tough! Hard plastic! I had an old flip phone in the late 90s with a telescopic antenna. No text messaging and an orange led numeric display. They used to always get me on roaming. Those were the days.

Ha, talk about "off topic"

Know what though? They still power on and work.

Anyway, back on topic. Preparing network. I see it all the time. I kind of ignore it though...

I was seeing it all the time, but I found a cure! Soft brick your phone! LOL

Actually I'd been seeing it quite a bit before I broke my phone, but never had any problems with it. It didn't have any effect on the phone...
