Ok will be getting the phone sometime today, I was suppose to receive it yesterday but ces la vie, anyways I am looking for your input on what Stock with latest OTA release do you guys recommend with all the Bloat removed, I will flash a Rom down the road, but want to play with stock for a week, so I can compare. I saw saw a few over at XDA, but looking for experienced recommendations. I always like to ask those that have tested first ;)

All of them are great, slesh has his own kernel for STS but the Perseus kernel would be the ONLY kernel I would use for any TW rom. Whompasaurus is another stockish looking rom with the aroma installer.

If you are looking for a bare bones rom then I would try digiblur's rom

What Rom are you currently on ?? and do you have a link to Digiblurs Rom, don't see on XDA

You can do it either way. If you take OTA you can still root with mskips toolbox 3.0 and use option 42 and the LJC tar, it works for MA7. Or you can root LJC using same method and then flash MA7 all in one zip. Here the link for the all in one thread on xda.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, she will be rooted tonight when I get home

Wonder why Skip didn't add the 4.1.2 option for Sprint even in his Toolkit 4.0 and we have to use option 42 for Australia, LOL, but all I care is that it works ;)

Wait, stop don't do it with option 42 if its for an Australian version it will brick your phone. I didn't realize he had upgraded to 4.0. I would check out the thread for MSkips toolkit over on xda to see what option you should use now for toolkit 4.0. For 3.0 it was option 42, for 4.0 he must have changed it. Please don't use option 42 if its not for the sprint note 2 this will brick your phone!

LOL, I am going to use 3.0, the 4.0 is a donate version, I guess 4.0 option 42 was for the Australia version, LOL

K, if I take the OTA on toolkit 3.0 do I still choose option 42 even though it says for 4.1.1 if I take the OTA and will be on 4.1.2 ??

All done, updated to MA7 and root has been achieved, doing a Nandroid as I type, I will let it finish. Then I want to check to see if I can make the TWRP back go to the SD card instead of the internal memory, so once done I will check that out.

Edit: Found it, check mark external SD card when backing up.

I also could swear there was an option to make your back up option for all be default either SD internal or external SD ??

Edit, found that also, simply back up and choose which one in settings you want as default

Enjoy your newly rooted, Galaxy Note 2, I am biased but I believe that you made the right decision on your phone purchase. HTC is nice but....

Are you still running stock, or which Rom are you on ??

The one thing I really like about 4EXT was the ability to do an advance data back ;) But TWRP is sweet also in it's own way

Right now, I'm running Jellybomb, the blue theme can be a little much but overall it's an awesome rom. The rom I usually stay on the longest though is Whompasaurus. Haven't tried any aosp roms yet

Also anyone been able to change the message notification Icon ?, it looks just like the email icon and drives me nuts, I know I could use a different app, but if that can be changed that would be better.

So, since I just bought one of these off ebay, I'm going to revive this thread. What should be my first ROM? I'm guessing the phone will come Thur afternoon, which means I'll be rooted ~10 min later. If I like the note, my wife gets my (spectacular) LTEvo. If not, she'll be replacing her tired E4GT (poor gps and battery life) with the note. Either way, we should be happy till our (last ever?) contracts expire and we become free agents.

So, which stock based rom should I start with?

Try one ( [ROM][Team WHOMP!]Whompasaurus Rom V4.2-Are we there yet?[AROMA][MA7]4/24/13 ) it is based off stock MA7, with all the bells and whistles and no Bloat, then you can go from there. Also you can root using the toolkit, even if you take the latest MC2 update, even though in the toolkit it does not show MC2 it does work 100 % If you need anything else bro let us know. I have been an HTC user for many years and I must say I am glad I made the switch to the NOTE II you will love it.
