Sprint's Hero or Moment phone?

seriously, someone spouts off about a 22mhz difference and doesn't have a clue about the processors within. Someone rattles off they are two completely different processors, stating what they are, and it's his job to do further research? He's not the one claiming 22mhz difference is neglible. If the guy is a neophyte, a little research and reading could enlighten him so he realizes he was wrong. If someone else does it for you, then you don't learn nothin'.

Tired of fanboy responses on both sides. We all know what side Numus is on, but he at least backs some of his stuff up with quantitative info.

For me, I looked at two basic features of the Moment and Hero (listed on Sprint's website). The Moment has a slide-out keyboard and the Hero has Chat-style messaging.

Does anyone else see the irony in this?

I think I will be getting the Hero, it seems to be better for unrelated reasons already mentioned in this thread.

I have the moment and my wife has the hero. we both love our phones for different reasons. i upgraded from the first instict to the moment because i hate virtual keyboards. i love the fact that the moment has a real keyboard because it makes texting better for me. my only problem thus far with the moment is the battery life. i am losing battery life very rapidly and cannot find what is draining the battery. i have tried adv task killer/manager and neither has helped

Ahahaha this actually made me laugh, maybe you should stop using task killers?? Ever think it that?
People don't use task killers! I can't strain it enough, these "applications" mess up your Hero, or any Android phones really bad. Don't use em.

this is available on the Moment too, just simply download Handcent from the Market...you won't be using the default message app for the Moment or the Hero, Handcent or Chomp

Oh, seems like my mind is stuck in the world of ancient phone technology.

Wow, the Moment is a brick? I thought it was really small  My husband has the Hero and I though they were about the same size.

I intend to get the Samsung Moment when my contract expires on another carrier. I don't care for the Hero as it doesn't have a physical keyboard which is a big consideration for me. Another big consideration for me is an accurate GPS signal. If I can't get both on the Moment, I would just stay with my current carrier until Samsung or HTC would come out with the next generation smartphones from Sprint (of course with physical keyboard and accurate gps fix.) :)

they are lol, people just say that cause they don't care for it, it is BARELY thicker than the hero

this another one of those comparisons between the Moment and the Hero that make sense on paper, but not in real life. when you hold both phones you will immediately feel like the Hero is much thinner and lighter in weight.

AND has a hardware KB, what do you expect with all those keys? to reallllly be the same size, pluse 30 buttons or so?

completely agree with this

The difference seems so small to me... I have held both and compared them. My husband has a Hero.

Carry an M16/M4 everywhere for a year and the phone doesn't seem like a big deal, I guess.

TheAna i just want to thank you for serving our country. I am a army veteran as well and just want to say, thank you for all you do. as far as the phones go, my wife has the hero and i have the moment. we both love each phone for different reasons and the hero is alot lighter but i love the physical keyboard that the moment has

The Moment.

Camera flash, physical keyboard, gesture pad (don't like the trackball), proximity sensor, faster processor, all are pluses.

The Hero does have a few things over the Moment - its build quality feels excellent, the Moment feels more like something you should NEVER drop (though my wife did - hard - and its fine). It has a higher capacity battery - 1500 mA vs. 1400 mA, and if I understand right its more efficient with its battery power.

I don't consider the Sense UI a true advantage because you can get 7-screen alternative home apps like Open Home or GDE on any Android device.

You really can't go wrong with either device though, honestly. If my Moment broke and all Sprint could replace it with was a Hero, I'd be ok with that cause its still a badass phone.

You left out one advantage that the Moment has over the Hero, I think the OLED screen is a major advantage over the hero's standard LCD screen. For one thing, the Moment has better brightness, color saturation and contrast over the Hero's LCD screen. Another thing would be the AMOLED screen has less power drain on the batteries. Maybe making for the battery disadvantage over the hero.

I really think the best phone is relative to the person looking at it. :)

As for manufacturer: I prefer HTC over Samsung. But comparing the Moment and the Hero, I'm going with the Moment because of 3 major considerations for me:

1. Samsung has a vibrant AMOLED screen.
2. Has a faster CPU
3. Has a physical keyboard. (This one is a major consideration for me)

I just hope both HTC and Samsung won't stop making smartphones with physical keyboards. I might be tempted to check iPhone for a better typing experience if this happens... (Joke only!) :)

without going into debate, my fiance has the moment and that thing is the biggest pos I've ever handled. I told her it'd be an upgrade going back to her diamond which I thought was bad. its proximity sensor sucks bad. no matter how you hold it the screen just seems to come on during phone calls and the mute button gets hit. its bulky and as stated before, feels like it should never be dropped. personal preference here, but it feels terrible when holding and the feel of using the touch screen is horrid. now I compare that to the hero and well the hero just feels good, looks good, works like a charm just like a 'smart phone' is suppose to.

This is a false statement. The prox sensor works fine. Perhaps she incorrectly installed a screen protector? The build is solid, and since when is a few MILLIMETERS difference make one phone bulky and the other is not?

Good job for being childish. Really, grats. I was trying to find a solution to your problem. I've personally tested and used 15 Samsung Moment units, ( I am rooting and getting rid of the bloatware for people ) and every single one of them worked just fine. So like I said, I was giving a suggestion, no need to bite my head off. Your the one who needs an education, in manners, and try to be grateful someone is trying to help you. People make mistakes, and for you to ASSUME that I should know what your doing with YOUR phone is just plain silly. I am not a psychic, and your opinion is unfounded, and therefore invalid.

"Tombstone file"

-What exactly are your referring to?

And I hate to do this, but your personal opinion, well, it's WRONG.

for 1, I didn't post on this thread for help. I posted for the op, which is not you! funny thing huh. for 2, I have already posted on this forum for help in fixing my girls phone which lead to discussion of file name tombstone, look it up Samsung moment 'expert'. 3rd, didn't momma ever teach you there's no such thing as a wrong opinion? lol only morons actually state an opinion is wrong. do you even know what it means? while your looking up tombstone: a dump file in the moments system, look up opinion. add the 'personal' before opinion then post back, k? oh and when I find time ill applaud you for 'testing and using' 15 moments. that must be a huge accomplishment.

Let's cut this crap. No need to get personal. There will always be a reason why you like a specific phone. And if you like what you have then good on you. :) Personally the perfect phone for me would be a Nexus One with a physical keyboard on the 'Now Network' with absolute freedom of plan choices. But until that happens, I would still be looking for the best compromise. For someone else it would be the Hero, for me it would be the Moment.

Peace out!

actually, the words you use and the way you use them make you seem more like a troll than someone trying to be helpful to the op. and if you're going to try and poke fun at someone's education level you should first have a firm grasp on the english language yourself.

and based off of doing a search on here, You probably have about 12 people on the site that even know about the tombstone directory. and the only reason to even know a thing about it is if you're having a problem. since a majority of the people are not having a related problem, of course they won't know about it.

I have both phones. Actually I have the Hero and my wife has the Moment. When we first got the phones I would say that the Hero was far superior. Now that the CL14 update has come out for the Moment, that phone has improved quite a bit. I fear after we are both upgraded to 2.1 the Moment may be more capable. All in all I think both phones are pretty great right now and it really comes down to whether you need a physical keyboard or not.

Off topic, but your avatar creeps me out. LOL. I was scrolling and said, did that picture just BLINK at me?!?

And my experience, "opinions" can in fact be wrong, either morally or factually. For instance, you saying the prox sensor "sucks bad" , Well I know that, for a fact, it does not "suck bad" its actually quite functional. Perhaps you have a damaged unit. We all know how well freight lines treat phones.

LOL! That was the intention when I put that avatar.

Actually an opinion can never be wrong because it is based on a subjective personal perspective. What he believes is his opinion. To him, it's true and no one can say other wise simply because his opinion is his own. HOWEVER opinions can be termed as false or not true (depending on the facts of reality). :)

Forget about his opinion, what matters most is yours, the guy that is holding which ever phone. If in your opinion you have the better phone, then good on you. As long as you're content with your phone then that is all that matters. Forget the facts, specs and all the rivalry. Clearly everyone has the right to his own opinion. :D

yeah, and the words false and wrong aren't synonymous in any way, shape or form

anyone that usually slams one phone tends to be a fanboy of the other and all of those opinions should be taken with a grain or two of salt. Both phones have their selling points. Both phones should improve with the update. You buy to your needs, plain and simple.

I have a Hero... my Wife has a Moment... BOTH are great phones.. the Moment does have a very impressive screen.. and it does have a keyboard (not that important to ME and I type fine on the Hero).. I went with the Hero for one main reason... the moment can go into a pseudo airplane mode at random times. (signal bar shows X but attempting to dial says you're in airplane mode..only a reboot corrects it) with me being on call at least 2 weeks a month I couldn't afford for that to happen. it has happened to my wife's Moment twice that I know of since Feb 16th.

if the Moment didn't have that issue, I most likely would have gotten one as well.. then again... I'm very satisfied with my Hero!

bottom line... get the one that feels best to YOU.. the one that makes YOU happy..that's all that really matters..
