StarFront: Collision now available

I've played a few skirmishes, whilst its nothing new and fresh RTS wise it still looks good and plays well, I did not have a problem with any clutter one most of all had fun.

Has anybody successfully installed this game on the Droid X? I was able to install the apk file but I keep getting an error when I try to download the game.
Similar problem on my DroidX when trying to download the data files for Shadow Guardian. Fast Five data download worked, but Shadow Guardian doesn't. :(

Just curious, which is everyone's favorite fraction?

My is Warden, with decent early game(best first Tier 1 ground), and decent end game.

However after playing with all the races, I found Myriad to be the strongest race, with auto healing building/units, and overpowered air and mega unit.

Consortium to me is just one trick pony: cheap tier 1 and strong tier 2 infantry, but weak in mid and late game, with the worst mega unit.

I'm tempted by this but the whole 90 day thing puts me off - I regularly remove games from my phone then reinstall them later. This would mean paying for a new download every time I want to free up some space.

Their website ( or possibly the Uk one ) says in the FAQ that games are available to download only for 90 days from the date of purchase. I had heard they were planning to change that policy so it's possible they just haven't updated the site.

First when you buy the game you get an APK that downloads to your download folder on your SD card. So you won't need to download the game again. Just go to the folder and reinstall it from the file you already have.

Second, the 90 day thing is just standard practice for all software. Like when you buy a multiplayer game for your console, they only guarantee the multiplayer servers will be up for 90 days. But it doesn't mean it will be down in 90 days, that is just the minimum they are required by to provide in case they go out of business or the game is a complete flop an their loosing a tonne of money. It is essentially just a cover their ass sort of clause.

I'm sure if you read the EULA about Apple's App Store, Android Market, Steam, Xbox Live or any other service like that a similar time limit would occur.

As to Gameloft's 90 days limit, it definitely not the current case, I can download games I have bought from back in May of 2010 when they first started selling Android games.

Thansk for that - I wasn't aware that it was possible to keep copies of the install files - now copied onto my PC

Anyone try this game on a tablet or get it to work on the Droid X? I was about to buy it a couple of days ago, but got cold feet. I didn't want to drop $5 for it not to work.

According to Gameloft forums there is a bug with StarFront and Shadow Guardian with the Droid X. They are aware of it and are working on it, but it may take a while.

They have removed the games from the Droid X, so if you go to their site on your phone you probably won't even be given an option to buy them.

For anyone that has the game and can't get it working email them and they will send you a new copy when it's finished. They will most likely offer you a free game for your trouble.

Starfront Collision & Shadow Guardian for Droid X

According to this review, it is almost unmanageable on a phone. I probably wouldn't even attempt it without a tablet. The screenshots look like their full of nasty clutter :(

Then he must not play RTS because it works surprisingly well as far as I'm concerned. Possibly the small display on the iPhone could be the problem. With a 4" or higher device it offers a great experience.

I downloaded this a few days ago. My only problem is i can't figure out what it means by tap and hold to retreat, i keep getting killed in the tutorial. lol.

If you select your units and tap a location, your units will go there. But if they are being shot at, they stop and shoot back.

To get them to move where you want without stopping you have to 'tap and hold' on the location you want them to go. If you continue to hold that position with your finger they will no longer stop to shoot.

To explain that even further, when you tap a location with selected units, it will show one of two arrows to confrim the movement, red and green. If it is red, they will stop and attack. To change that, or "retreat" tap and hold until it turns green. Same things works vice versa if it is green already.

I concur - I've found it fine on the galaxy s screen, and no worse control wise than any other RTS ( ie bewildering until you get used to it ). So far it's about the best game I've played on Android.

I really don't have any problem with this even on my smaller screened G2. It may take a couple of missions to get used to, but after that it is an excellent game.

lol I keep pestering Gameloft on Twitter/Facebook but they're being all shy...

I want to play Gameloft games on my Tegra tablet, do they do them, are they optimized, am really interested in playing starfront on my Transformer!

I have as well... They give the standard answer of "We are working on bringing our games to all mobile platforms." I have been itching to pick up some games for the Xoom. Either Honeycomb is giving them fits, or they don't have a whole lot of people dedicated to it. With a ton of Tegra tablets coming out, you would think that they would realize that there are going to be great gains in bringing the games to them.

I finally rooted my phone and put CM7 on it. The extra 100mhz from overclocking it, and the changes made in Gingerbread help alot...this game is buttery smooth now!

I suppose not having all of that HTC and Sprint crap running in the background sucking up 80% of my RAM probably helps too. :)

Tried the droid x version on my Xoom. Force closes everytime. Runs great on the x though.

The Droid X and Xoom uses a completely different chipset. The Droid X has a Texas Instruments CPU and PowerVR SGX 530 GPU while the Xoom utilizes Nvidia's Tegra 2.

Try the LG Optimus 2X it is the only device with the Tegra 2 chipset that list Starfront for sale. Most likely wont work, but its more likely than the Droid X version.

I figured it wouldn't work but I didn't want to buy it and not be able to play it at all...

That doesn't make sense, the game will only install on one device, thats part of the DRM.

Hmm, I had installed it first on the Droid X, so maybe because it force closed after the download and every time I tried to open it, it never was able verify the software...
