Start up sounds

I've searched high and low on both the forum and in the phone for an answer to this and come up empty. I'm sure this is beyond a simple question but how do I turn off the sound on the splash screen startup?

Here is from a post on XDA by jsmith8858

BY THE WAY; YOU MUST HAVE ROOT TO DO THIS

This may be common knowledge to all, but in case it is not:

1) To disable the start up sound, in the /etc directory, rename the file PowerOn.wav to PowerOn.wav.bak.

2) To disable the shutdown sound, in the /system/media/audio/ui directory, rename shutdown.ogg to shutdown.ogg.bak.

I did this using a rooted phone with ADB. I am sure there may be an easier way if someone would like to provide further instructions regarding this.

I hope this info helps someone, those sounds very super-loud and annoying! If this info is available elsewhere, let me know and I will remove this post.

I used EStrong File manager to do this

Go to Settings-->sound and display-->System volume-->toggle all the way down. There will be no sound on the start up and power down. All other volumes are unaffected.

You can also get Quick Settings from the Market and that lets you control all volumes from your home screen.

Very new to Android but hey, I knew the answer to this one!!

Or use the physical volume control to turn it all the way down. Or pull down the notification screen and hit Silent.
