Root status 7 error message please help me smart peeps

Evo 4g is getting error message....heres what happened...i got gingerbread 2.3 tried installing it was from some other site...installed nothing happened except some screen saver that kept floating so i deleted everything including the boot image and system>>>>I MEAN EVERYTHING<<<< and then i downloaded the real 2.3 update and tried flashing....this is what I get when trying to do that...file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop" No such file or directory
E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip
(status 7)

PLEASE HELP ME FIND A FIX FOR THIS!!!
 
Sounds like you deleted not just Android but also the phone's firmware. I'm afraid you've got a brick.

can you get into recovery? what is your hboot?
