Accessories Steinheil Crystal Clear Protector Review

Man, it's not you. I installed my Zagg with no problems, it was beautiful, and I'd consider myself to be a pretty darn handy guy. Then I tried to install the Steinheil today and got all kinds of crap under the film. When I finally got it on I couldn't get all the bubbles out.

Also, the problem I have with the Steinheil vs the Zagg is, I think the Steinheil will peel up if put inside a case like the Nexus one case while I feel the Zagg wouldn't. I just think the solution on the Zigg really helps the film stick firmly to the glass, it also helps you remove the bubbles to get a nice fit. (I wonder it it would help to use the Zagg fluid on the Steinheil film?)

I got most of the bubbles out and I'll stick with the Steinheil for now. Thank goodness I have a replacement Zagg and Steinheil, but right now I'm thinking the Zagg is just a bit nicer.
 
Damn....last night I saw that it was all of 2 miles from my house at a sorting facility.....

The damn post office....instead of sending it to my house today sent it to a sorting facility in Jersey about 40 miles away?!?!?! WTF?!?!?!
 
I bought the protector from vzw and asked someone to apply, the guy that did it, did a worse job than I would have...I suggest maybe trying best buy...?

I have a VZW silicone case and I could see the edges of my screen protector when it was in there. Didnt matter either way though because I already botched it at that point.

Every single time I ever tried to install a protector on any electronics I own, I screw it up. Im just not meant to do this and just continue to waste money trying.

Id rather a case than a screen protector and really want the Seidio Innocase once that releases. I wonder if Ill have better luck using a Seidio protector with the Seidio case. Are Seidio protectors good too?
 
I am wondering if the "High Gloss Silicone Protective Cover" by Verizon will push up the edges of the Steinheil?

I tried it with a cheap ebay protector that was cut a little smaller than the glass and the orners of the gell case would push the corners of the protector up after a little use.

It was quicker than you think, I looked a few hours after they were in-stock and they were all gone. Hopefully their next mfg run they punch out more than 50 units.

I mean, once you have the correct cutter die I don't see what the holdup is. It's not as if they're making custom films for us, only the dies are different.

i just tried this case for you and it didnt push the corners or anything up on mine. so it should be fine as long as you get the protector install and centered correctly ;)
 
Trim the corners of the protector a bit smaller so it doesn't rub there? For myself I'll be buying whichever case happens to stretch over the 2150ma battery. Just one more month right?

I love the phone. The battery life, not so much. It's fine if I'm on wifi, but normal usage + 4 hours of Pandora at the office and it's pretty much flat.

OK ok ok, I screwed up my first screen because my wife was talking to me about her day, I love my wife but should have waited till after our quality time.

OK, I decided to go ahead and install the second screen (I can't live with bubbles and lint) and took my time doing it (after she went to sleep, and after reading the directions), it is beautiful, and I mean beautiful. Not one bubble, not one lint speck, beautiful. I am one happy man! This is a beautirul screen protector.
 
Mine was ordered Mon morning when they were in...just got a notice today that they shipped :confused: lol

Anyways....not 1 pic i here of their beauty installed and fresh? Is everyone's camera these days the one on their phone! :D

Glad those that got theirs seem for the most part happy.

Just to clarify - you're happy with the Steinheil, and prefer it over the Zagg. Correct?
 
I installed the crystal on mine this afternoon. I was really in a hurry and installed it in less than a minute as I was running off to a meeting. After the meeting, I looked at the phone more closely and discovered I had actually pull the protector off with the blue film on top and was running around without any protection. LOL

I went ahead and installed the 2nd one and took a little more time and it turned out great. The surface has a slight feel to it but it looks absolutely clear and and even helps with finger print smudges. I've used others...Zagg, Phantomskinz, etc. and Steinheil really works significantly better than all the others. I cannot speak for the longevity but I'd give it a solid 'A' on easy of installation and original feel/clarity.... plus some bonus points for helping with smudges.

Be careful pulling off the blue film and don't throw out a perfectly good protector thinking it's garbage. :)
 
I put mine on tonight and it came pretty good. I have OCD and I was pretty happy with the first take, so I

I have a spec or two of dust (very far off the screen on the black and not noticeable) but really no bubbles. :) Pushed em all out. So far very happy. Was using a Zagg before this (wasn't bad but the grip was too much) so these new ones are really feeling good right about now.
 
so... I asked in other threads and i'm not sure if it was answered (sorry if it was), but how long do these last?

Is there a reason it comes with 2, other than having a 2nd opportunity to put it on after I will undoubtably screw up the first?

i disagree, the zagg i bought did peel up in the verizon silicon case. so far the steinheil is staying on good.

I was talking about the Nexus one case not the VZN silicon case. My fear is that after putting the Inc in the Nexus One case a number of times the Steinheil will begin to come up on the corners. I'm not sure if this will be the case, I'm just concern and don't want to mess up my Steinheil.

oh, well it seems to be on there pretty good either way, its not really sticky like the verizon one and not wet like the zagg. after using mine for a while now i think my fingers slide across the screen way better than they did on the regular screen, also i am seeing alot less fingerprints as well. that just may be because i am being more careful though.

Yes, I'm curious about this too.

My Nexus One case is on the FedEx truck as I type this .. but I am also interested in getting a screen protector as I plan to use the phone a lot of the time w/o the case.
 
I received and installed my Steinheil crystal screen protector yesterday and it was very easy and clean. The protector is cut just a tiny bit smaller than the screen size so there's some room for error in the application. I applied it in a steamy bathroom, and as such there was only one dust spot that was trapped under the screen. That was easily removed by using two pieces of scotch tape (one to lift the film, and the other to pull off the piece of dirt). One minor quibble is that it it's not laying completely flat around the optical button. I've cleaned it several times, but it still isn't completely flat (most easily seen in the full screen, screen off picture). The bubble has become less noticeable as time has gone by, and perhaps it will disappear completely in a few days.

The surface is smooth - slightly smoother than the original surface, but not significantly so, and there is absolutely no orange peel at all. The screen is absolutely crystal clear, however it does pick up finger prints and oil pretty easily.

Attached are a few pictures so you can see what it looks like with the screen turned on, dimmed, and off. The 'banding' visible on the screen on pictures isn't in the wallpaper, and isn't visible to the naked eye. It's some sort of picture artefact. Enjoy!

I'd be surprised if it didn't last for the lifetime of the phone. It appears to be great quality. But I'm glad it came with two because my first one was ruined when it fell on the floor.
